Schumer met Hanisch on a dating app, and what began with humorous hello texts soon led to a first date (there was wine and rain and Schumer clad in jeans). She was smitten. “Things were just really easy with him,” Schumer tells PEOPLE. “There were no games, no waiting three days. It was clear and easy. He was so sweet. He didn’t know who I was. He’d heard my name.” Schumer recounts their romance in her new book, The Girl with The Lower Back Tattoo, which is exclusively excerpted in the new issue of PEOPLE. For Schumer, it all began with a smile. “We smiled at each other and in that moment, everything felt right,” she writes. In January, the comic revealed she was dating the handsome furniture designer from Chicago, calling him her “man” after a visit to the White House, where she attended a press conference to show her support of President Obama’s efforts to combat gun violence. She insists that despite being in a strong relationship, she remains cautious about jumping too far ahead. “I want to be [as] hopeful in love and commitment as possible,” she says. “[But] I come from parents who have each been married three times.” “I can’t lie about it,” she says about her views on love and marriage. “I don’t have this blind optimism.”
