'Orange Is the New Black' 's Lea DeLaria Shuts Down Hateful Subway Preacher (VIDEO)

Orange Is the New Black‘s Lea DeLaria was a pioneering, openly gay stand-up comic more than 20 years before she started playing Big Boo on the wildly popular show, so she’s got a way with hecklers.

And that’s why this video of DeLaria verbally annihilating a homophobic preacher on the New York City subway isn’t really unexpected – though it is amazing.

“This is not why America’s in trouble,” DeLaria says in the video, responding to the man’s ranting. “Religious fanatics are the reason America’s in trouble. You are the reason America’s in trouble.”

DeLaria continued to speak over the preacher until he exited the train, at which point she quipped, “Thank God and notice I thanked God.”
