After living at 654 lbs., Bettie Jo Elmore finally got the weight loss surgery she needed to save her health. But as she worked to lose the weight, Elmore got two more life-changing updates: She’s pregnant, and she has a large bone mass on her spine.
Now, Elmore, 26, faces an agonizing decision. If she has surgery to remove the mass she could lose her baby, but if she doesn’t she could become paralyzed.
“It’s been a really hard couple of weeks,” Elmore says in this exclusive clip from My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now? “I went to the emergency room because I was sick, and my stomach was hurting. After doing a CT scan, they noticed a large mass on my spine. Because I’m pregnant, the bigger the baby gets, the more he presses on the bone mass on my spine.”
Elmore, who had the weight loss surgery 13 months prior to the episode, has lost over 200 lbs. so far. But while she’s putting in hard work at the gym and exercising with a personal trainer, she’s still about 445 lbs.

“I’m already a high-risk pregnancy, so a lot of things could go wrong,” she says. “Having a baby is a dream come true, but I need to be able to take care of that baby. I don’t understand why this is happening, and I don’t know how I’m going to make this decision.”
