Australian singer Ricki-Lee Coulter thought that she was highlighting a beautiful moment when she posted a photo of her makeup-free, freckle-filled face to social media. But a slew of Internet trolls didn’t see it that way.

“When I was a little girl I hated my freckles but one day my Pop told me they were just a whole lot of beauty spots & that girls with freckles are special. Now I love them!” the 29-year-old songwriter wrote alongside the natural selfie on Tuesday.

Some praised the former American Idol contestant for the photo, posting comments like “I love your freckles!” and “Wow a real no make up selfie not a genuine fake one you see from most celebs! Much respect!” But it was not long before a series of negative comments appeared.

“You are full of s—. Freckles are just that and no amount of platitudes will make them sun kisses. They are solar damage? Get over it and wear sun screen,” one Facebook user commented on the photo.

Another wrote: “You one ugly bitch without make up.”

Coulter fought back, shutting down the trollers with a comment of her own.

“It makes me so sad that there are people out there that are so miserable in their own lives that they will turn a candid moment and a beautiful memory into something negative and nasty,” Coulter wrote in a Facebook comment on the selfie.

“Please do me and everyone else here a favour and unlike my page, then go and get yourself a life.”

Coulter isn’t letting trollers rain on her parade. Just days after posting the selfie, the singer uploaded a throwback video to Facebook, showing herself singing her 2005 hit “Sunshine”.
