The Voice UK contestant Rick Snowdon has rock star looks now, but he once weighed 364 lbs.

Snowdon – who has dropped down to 196 lbs. – says he was teased in high school for his weight, and often felt worthless.

“I was telling myself that I wasn’t worth anything, and I was a waste of time,” the 29-year-old told the Hartlepool Mail.

Snowdon said he was afraid to look in the mirror and rarely showered because he did not want to see his own body.

After an “uncomfortable” night out with his brother, Snowdon decided to stay in seclusion to lose weight. He spent four and a half years dedicating himself to his weight loss, and along the way discovered his love of music and taught himself to play the guitar.

“Without music, I’d have eaten myself to death,” Snowdon told the paper.

The singer, who blew away The Voice UK judges with a soulful performance of “I Put A Spell on You,” used to be addicted to candy and pastries, but he now finds fulfillment through performing.

“It is something I do completely, with all I have, and it is the only thing that has ever compared to chocolate,” he said. “I have just surrounded myself with music. It was a solution, a way to save myself, and something to aspire to.”
