When The Real Housewives of Orange County‘s newest cast member, Meghan King Edmonds, decided to get a boob job, the idea was freeing.

“I had felt it would be nice to not have to wear a push-up bra anymore, and I could afford it. So I went in and I paid cash,” Edmonds, 30, tells PEOPLE of her decision to go from an A cup to a D cup when she was 26 years old. “It felt really liberating.”

Then, she says, a bit of remorse set in.

“I initially regretted it for the first couple weeks. I felt really vain, shallow and like I wasted a lot of money,” she says. “I felt like I was going against everything I stood for as far as feminism and owning your own body. I thought, ‘Men don’t get plastic surgery, why should women?’ ”

But Edmonds – who joins Vicki Gunvalson, Tamra Judge, Heather Dubrow and Shannon Beador for the series’s 10th season premiering June 8 on Bravo – eventually embraced her decision.

“Once the pain went away and they settled in, I felt really good about it,” she says. “Especially now, I love it because I got really into fitness when I started dating my husband [former baseball player Jim Edmonds] and I lost a ton of body fat, so I have nothing but an implant anymore.”

“I don’t think I would be comfortable with the body I have now if I didn’t have breasts,” she adds.
