Between asking to join [CELEBRITY_LINK‘s squad” “” “” “0” ] and having the ultimate #goals-level bromance with Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart is basically a teenager – so it’s no surprise that at age 75, he has the abs of one.

After showing them off in an epic beach photo back in December, Entertainment Tonight asked Stewart how the septuagenarian stays so ripped during the Golden Globes red carpet Sunday night.

“Pushups. It’s that simple,” he explains.

“Until I had my shoulder surgery two months ago, so I’m not doing pushups at the moment. An old war wound from location work.”

Stewart, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for best actor in a TV musical or comedy for his leading role in the Starz show Blunt Talk, posted the Instagram the day he learned of his nod.

“Dear #HFPA, I am so overjoyed by my @goldenglobes nomination I decided to coordinate my look today. #aquasocks” he captioned the photo.

And while his abs were on full display in the shot, that wasn’t his intention.

But unfortunately, his workout move of choice is out of the question for the moment.

“It wasn’t the abs that I was really thinking of showing, it was the pink shorts, the pink beach shoes and the pink cocktail I had in one hand,” Stewart admits. “I was color coordinated and that’s what that was about and then all this other stuff [the internet response] just happened.”

But don’t expect the social media-savvy star to expose his chest muscles on the red carpet this awards season.

“This is not the place to do it again,” Stewart says. “I don’t think my PR people would be happy with that.”
