Instagram users took to Nike's comment section to praise the company for featuring a curvy model
Nike is receiving high praise after posting a sports bra ad on Instagram with a curvy model.
The post, captioned “Welcome to Sports Bra 101” offered tips for picking the appropriate sports bra. But it was model Paloma Elsesser who stole the show, posing for the photo in a jog bra and leggings.
“Way to go @nike@nikewomen for representing body diversity without labeling it plus-sized’ ! This is a great post and a big step towards true body equality,” one commenter wrote.
Another social media user wrote: “Thanks for this awesome step forward, Nike! Great to see body diversity represented here, and especially that you acknowledged it without pretense.”
The comments kept rolling in, with many calling the ad “beautiful” and “powerful.”
Nike responded to the comments, telling users to “keep the feedback coming,” Today reports.
“We hear you, and we’ll be sure to let our team know your thoughts,” company officials reportedly wrote on the post.
Elsesser previously spoke about calling herself “a plus-sized model” to Allure magazine.
“That’s my profession – how I support myself – but I don’t want that to always be part of my description,” she said. “It took a lot for me to be able to say that I’m a plus-sized model at all without feeling terror or this kind of panic because it was something so unplanned.”
“I went through my whole life thinking I’m a pretty, chubby girl. I’ve never been skinny … I don’t have this classic plus-size body, but I’m special in my own way, and I think that story is really inspiring to a lot of girls.”
