Mark Wahlberg is as obsessed with fitness as ever, and hopes to get down to 6 percent body fat for his next movie
“I don’t play basketball anymore because I don’t want to roll an ankle and miss a movie or screw up my golf game,” Wahlberg tells Men’s Health for the cover of their Jan./Feb. issue, on newsstands Dec. 26.
But other than skipping out on basketball games, the actor is still working out regularly.
“I’m doing [the Versaclimber, a machine similar to a stairclimber] twice a day and jumping rope,” Wahlberg says. “If I wake up at 3:30, I can go to the golf course at 6:30, be done by 8:30, and then be home and then do the rest of my stuff: work with a physiotherapist, get treatment, hit the cryo chamber.”
He also has a big goal in mind for his upcoming movie, Mile 22, a CIA thriller directed by Peter Berg, his director for Patriot’s Day, Lone Survivor and Deepwater Horizon.
“I’ve been fat in all of Peter’s movies,” Wahlberg says. “For this one I’m going to be down to 6 percent body fat.”
The star’s determination — both for his fitness and his career — comes from a strong work ethic.
“The only way to be the best is to keep working like you got nothing,” Wahlberg says. “Keep getting after it, and be more and more aggressive, more and more focused every day. I don’t know. I have more drive and desire now than I ever have.”
