Blogger Spoofs CDC's Advice to Women to Use Birth Control If Drinking with List of Birth Control and Booze Pairings
Katie Jeans' "Birth Control and Booze Pairing" chart recommends pairing the pill with red wine because pill uses are "classic and love tradition"
Earlier this month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a release warning women to use birth control if they are drinking alcohol in order to prevent fetal alcohol syndrome.
“Sexually active women who stop using birth control should stop drinking alcohol,” stated the CDC.
Blogger Katie Stephens, better known as Katie Jean, responded to the CDC’s advice with a tongue-in-cheek chart of the best liquors to drink with each form of birth control.
“I know drinking alcohol during pregnancy can lead to fetal alcohol syndrome and it’s important to educate the public on this, but the CDC left men and their role out of the conversation,” Stephens, 33, told PEOPLE. “Like many women, I thought it came off as offensive, especially when you consider what that can imply when women’s reproductive health is already being attacked.”
“At the same time it does not address the fact that many women have difficulty accessing contraception in the first place,” she continues. “That is something that should be addressed before we talk about what we can and cannot drink.”
Stephens’ “Birth Control and Booze Pairing” chart recommends pairing the pill with red wine because pill uses are “classic and love tradition,” while condom users should drink beer because they “stick to basics but enjoy different flavors.”

The New Jersey resident said she created the chart to bring attention to “women being able to be in control of their own bodies – and, of course, have a laugh.”
Her parody chart has been shared across the Internet, and fortunately Stephens says most of the reactions to it have been positive.
“I thought my friends would get a kick out of it, but I had no idea it would go viral the way it did,” says Stephens. “And I must say, my pairings for the most part are pretty on point based on all the comments!”
