As a model, NYU student and cookie-crafter extraordinaire for MilkBar, Karlie Kloss has little time for anything else – but she always makes exercising a priority, especially when she’s about to walk the runway.

“Just before – all of the nerves or feeling a bit anxious or feeling tired, the best way to combat that in my opinion is by breaking a good sweat,” she tells Women’s Health for their October cover story. “It’s the best therapy.”

It’s one way that she makes herself a priority when the stress creeps in from her busy schedule.

“I don’t sit still very often, so that’s why I’ve had to learn how to really take care of myself, and feel my best even when I’m not in my routine, when I’m not sleeping in my own bed and working out in the same place doing the same thing every day,” Kloss, 24, explains. “I love to dance…to kind of just move. There’s nothing more gratifying than a good sweat.”

Leading up to New York Fashion Week, she also focuses on her diet, and continues to eat her fish and veggie-heavy meals while cutting back on the sugar.

“I think during crunch time I’m just a little more careful about the sweets,” Kloss says. “I have a serious sweet tooth. I started a cookie line because I have that much of a sweet tooth, but still gotta indulge and enjoy life.”

Because for Kloss, New York Fashion Week is the best time of the year – and the most nerve-wracking.

“I’m always really excited when fashion week comes around cause it’s like this giant family reunion,” she says. “I really look forward to it, but I also get nervous. It’s funny. No matter how many times I’ve walked the runway shows I always sort of get that adrenaline leading up to it.”

But she always has the support of her pals – like BFF Taylor Swift to keep her going.

“I think having strong friends – having a support group – is everything,” Kloss says. “It’s so important to have friends that you can rely on, that you can lean on no matter what you’re going through – good times and bad. I feel really lucky I’ve met a lot of amazing, amazing women along the way and I hope that they’ll be in my life forever.”
