How to Get Gigi Hadid's Rock-Hard Abs: A 7-Step Guide
ACCEPT THAT CARDIO IS SUPER EFFECTIVE
While crunches and sit-ups are synonymous with a toned tummy, cardio is what helps get that hard-earned six-pack to finally peek through. "My biggest thing is just eat healthy and work out," says Hadid. "I was a volleyball player for 12 years, I rode horses my whole life, and now I box every day."
A CLEAN DIET IS JUST AS IMPORTANT
Sure, clocking in time at the gym is key when working toward a fitness goal, but a clean diet is just as, if not more, important; it's as easy as swapping out beverages high in sugar for a tall glass of water, or limiting fast food intake to once a week. It's all about a healthy balance, echoes Hadid: "I can eat healthy when I want to and I can work out every single day and I can have the body for a certain runway show if I need to, but that doesn't mean that I'm doing it in an unhealthy way."
It's no secret the 21-year-old model is a fan of boxing — fans have long witnessed Hadid's many 'grams in support of the sport, which is known to torch a ton of calories and serves as an all-body workout. It's also fun, according to Hadid: "When you're boxing, you get so into it mentally that you kind of forget what's going on, you forget that you're working out," she tells Vogue. "You always want more."
BUT DON'T FORGET TO SQUEEZE IN DIFFERENT WORKOUTS
In preparation for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Hadid turned to N.Y.C.'s Gotham Gym for her regular boxing lessons at night and Ballet Beautiful — classes featuring targeted mat work, barre exercises and ballet cardio — in the morning.
SET A SCHEDULE
The most effective way to keep up with your newfound fitness kick? Create a workout schedule and stick to it. "It's all about how hard you work and how much you put in — Gigi is a hard worker," says Rob Piela, owner of N.Y.C.'s Gotham Gym and Gotham G-Box, who began training Hadid two years ago. "Staying fit is all about consistency," he adds. "Don't miss workout days; don't get lazy in the winter."
REMEMBER: GYM EQUIPMENT IS NOT A REQUIREMENT
If you can't make it to a boxing class or ballet studio, Piela suggests committing to at-home floor moves (like planks, crunches and leg raises) for visible abs. "The combination of those three moves is golden," he tells Vogue.
GO AHEAD AND ORDER THAT OCCASSIONAL BURGER
Sure, working out consistently and eating well is the key to a toned physique, but it's not the end of the world if you find yourself ordering pizza or a cheeseburger at dinner one night, according to the model. "The biggest thing I always say is eat clean to stay fit, and then have a cheat day to stay sane," she shares. As for her go-to burger joint, the model is quick to cite N.Y.C.'s J.G. Melon as her favorite.
