When Ethan Renoe went out for a run on a rainy Chicago evening, he had no idea he was going to become a viral Internet sensation.

The 24-year-old trainer was stopped by a local WGN TV reporter to chat about the weather and his decision to run in the rain without a shirt, and by the time he returned back from his run, the video of his interview had already received 24,000 views.

Renoe was completely surprised that his man-on-the-street interview had attracted so much attention so quickly.

“I was like, ‘What?!’,” Renoe tells PEOPLE. “And then it just kind of grew and grew and grew. My friends and I were watching it while we ate dinner, and we were like, ‘60,000! 70,000!’ It just kept going up. I definitely did not see that coming at all!”

The video now has 4.3 millions views on Facebook, and Renoe has received swarms of messages and Facebook requests.

“It’s just super fun,” he says of his newfound Internet fame. “I’ve loved it. It’s just been awesome. It’s been really cool.”

Renoe has especially loved that he’s been able to connect with people through his blog, in which he writes about his personal experiences and their connection to his faith.

“I’ve gotten messages from people who said they were crying because they connected with my blog,” he says.

Of course, he’s also received a fair amount of messages from interested ladies after mentioning at the end of his 30-second interview that he’s single.

“I’ve received some marriage proposals now,” says Renoe. “There was a 71-year-old lady that commented, ‘I love Ethan!,’ so that was pretty funny.”

While he hasn’t accepted any requests for a date yet, it’s not out of the question.

“If there was one who really stood out to me, I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to it,” says Renoe. “I guess that’s why I gave that shout out in the first place, but I definitely didn’t think it would come to this!”
