Oprah's Great Weight Watchers Accomplishment Is Resisting Potato Chips: 'I've Been Controlled by Potatoes for 40 Years'
Oprah is dedicated to her Weight Watchers points, even when her favorite greasy snack is within reach
“I have been controlled by potatoes for 40 years,” Winfrey said in a private Q&A session for Weight Watchers members Wednesday night. “Any kind of fried potato, baked potato, scalloped potato – oh my god.”
On other diets, the Weight Watchers spokesperson’s intense desire for the starchy carb would have to go unrequited, but with a few points and a lot of self-restraint, Winfrey can happily munch on her favorite potato chips and still lose 26 lbs.
“I actually was traveling the other day and opened a 5 oz. bag of crinkle cut, black pepper potato chips and I counted out 10 chips,” she recalled. “And I ate the 10 and I savored every one. And I put the bag away.”
“Of all the accomplishments that made in the world, all the red carpets, and the awards and those things that I’ve done,” Winfrey said, laughing. “The fact that I could close the bag and not take another chip – it’s major for me.”
But she recognizes that her resistance isn’t always quite as strong, so Winfrey knows not to keep potato chips in the house.
“Potato chips would be a major trigger for me, so you would not find chips in my house right now,” she said. Instead, Winfrey goes for a lower-calorie treat. “I love salty and crunchy, so you can’t do better than one of those huge Snyder’s pretzels. That’s my go-to snack, and I will only eat one and not eat six.”
