Moms who breastfeed in public have been shamed by onlookers and social media commenters countless times before. But one New Zealand mother got an unusual reaction from a stranger while feeding her 8-week-old son at a local restaurant – support!
Briar Lusia Mcqueen was nearly brought to tears when an elderly woman approached the young breastfeeding mother with kindness – going as far to help Mcqueen prepare to eat her own breakfast.
“I was scared, thinking she was gonna tell me to put my boob away,” Mcqueen wrote in a Facebook post. “Instead, she starts cutting up my breakfast for me and said ‘what a good mama you are, we can’t have your food getting cold can we.’ ”
“I honestly could have cried,” she added. “Loveliest lady EVER!!”

Mcqueen says she was out for her first breakfast alone with her son, Jaxon. “I had just received my breakfast and hot chocolate when [he] started crying wanting his booby so of course I fed him.”
She shared the “really sweet moment” on her Facebook page on May 30. The post has since been shared over 11,600 times, with over 360K likes and 14K wildly supportive comments.
The response has been overwhelming for Mcqueen. “This is blowing my mind,” she wrote in a June 1 post. “I’m in shock.”
