Broadway baby: Audra McDonald and Will Swenson are new parents!
“[Will] and I are overjoyed to welcome Sally James McDonald-Swenson, born last night at 11:16pm. Our hearts are bursting,” the six-time Tony winner, 46, tweeted Thursday.
A rep for the couple confirms to PEOPLE that their little girl’s name honors Swenson’s late mother, Sally, and McDonald’s late father, Stanley James. Sally was born in New York City, weighing 7 lbs., 2 oz.
The couple have been married since 2012, and have three children between them from previous marriages. McDonald is mom to 15-year-old daughter Zoe Madeline, and Swenson, 43 — known for his Broadway work in Hair and Les Misérables, the latter of which played its final performance Sept. 4 — has two sons: Sawyer, 12, and Bridger, 15.

McDonald announced their baby on the way in May, via a statement and social media.
“Who knew that tap dancing during perimenopause could lead to pregnancy?” the actress and singer said in the statement and also tweeted. “Will and I are completely surprised — and elated — to be expecting a new addition to our family.”
“I am so very grateful to everyone in New York and London for allowing me to rearrange my schedule to accommodate this little miracle,” the former Private Practice star added in the statement.
If McDonald and Swenson’s new bundle of joy is anything like her mother, it looks like Sally’s in for a pretty awesome personality.
“She is a very kind and caring person and I’d like to think she got that from me,” McDonald’s mother Anna told PEOPLE in May. “She genuinely cares about people and all things.”
And if Sally ends up like her grandmother, then all the better.
“My mom’s a very independent, accomplished woman,” McDonald added in May. “I’ll be proud if I end up like her.”
