Mindy Tran of Lawrence, Mass., is recovering in a hospital after acting as a human speed bump to save her children.

The 22-year-old threw herself in front of a rolling car to slow down the vehicle containing her twin girls. Tran told Boston station WCVB that she backed her Honda into the garage of her apartment building and put the vehicle in park. But when the mother left the vehicle to get her children from the back, the car began to move down the driveway toward the busy street below.

“I was like, ‘What is going on?’ And I see my daughter sitting there in the back seat and of course my first instinct is, ‘I have to push the car back into the driveway,'” Tran recounted to WCVB.

With her maternal instincts kicking in, Tran dove under the car to slow its decline. Neighbors soon realized what was happening, rushed over and jumped inside the car to bring it to a complete stop.

Firefighters arrived soon after and lifted the car off Tran. The mother’s brave move resulted in a crushed left knee and dislocated right leg, but she says the long road to recovery is worth it because her children are unharmed.

“My daughters are my everything, my everything, and I don’t want to see them in the hospital, and I knew at that time it was either mine or theirs,” Tran said.
