Black-ish stars Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson have been tapped to host this year’s BET Awards – and naturally the on-screen couple’s sense of humor will be on full display.

“I’m excited for the performances and I’m excited to see what happens with Anthony and I,” Ross, 42, tells PEOPLE. “We work together every week on Black-ish, but we have a very different kind of scripted relationship on the show so it’ll be fun for us to play in this way – in a different capacity and to be silly in a different way.”

But this isn’t the first time the actors have teamed up to host an awards show.

“Tracee and I hosted the Vibe Awards [in 2005]. That was our first time working together and hosting something together,” shares Anderson, 44. “And here we are now, full circle, doing this for BET.”

However, unlike the Vibe Awards – where Anderson says he “felt so inadequate” by Ross’s ample number of wardrobe changes – he vows he “will not be outdone this year.”

“Anthony was excited because he had bought a great new velvet smoking jacket and that was all he was wearing. I had eight changes [so] I have a feeling that Anthony is going to up me this year,” admits Ross.

And even though the pair has hosted in the past, they both agree they’re still just as nervous to take the stage for the award show, which is celebrating its 15th year.

“We’re a bundle of nerves,” says Anderson. “That’s all we are, but we use that nervous energy to propel us through the night and that’s where all the fun comes from.”

The 2015 BET Awards airs live on BET from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Sunday, June 28, at 8:00pm ET and re-airs at 11:00pm ET.
