Turns out, not everyone predicted Mad Men would be the smash hit it is today.
When Christina Hendricks first auditioned for her role as Joan Holloway on the AMC drama, she never expected that the show would be such a success.
“I didn’t think it was going to get picked up because it was on AMC and they had no TV shows and it was a period piece,” she admitted to E! News on the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet. “So I was like, ‘This’ll be a fun pilot to do.’ ”
“Nine years later …” she said with a laugh.
But landing the role wasn’t a walk in the park. Hendricks, 40, revealed that she had to audition three times, “probably the most I’ve ever done.”
Little did she know, those three auditions would pay off. Not only has the actress been nominated for an Emmy sixt times for her role, but Mad Men is also currently up for an outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series award at the SAG awards.
Hendricks was all smiles as she walked down the SAG red carpet Saturday night with her husband, Geoffrey Arend.

“You’ve gotta really like the person you’re with,” said Hendricks. “And respect them and like, love them. Then you have to be reasonable.”
