Louis Gossett Jr. introduced the emotional segment that honored iconic Hollywood figures

The Oscars paid tribute to some of the film legends we lost during the past year on Sunday.

Some of the iconic Hollywood figures honored during an emotional in memoriam segment, accompanied by Dave Grohl playing The Beatles’ “Blackbird,” included David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Leonard Nimoy, horror legend , composer James Horner, Omar Sharif, Christopher Lee and Monsters, Inc. screenwriter Daniel Gerson.

The 88th annual Awards are being presented live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
