The film bested a crowded field Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre

Birdman took home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay on Sunday night.

“I am so grateful. We want to thank our incredible cast,” said director Alejandro Gonzélez Iñérritu as he accepted the prize.

The award was presented at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles.

The 2015 Oscars, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, aired live on ABC.
