Writing country hits are a breeze for Luke Bryan and Brett Eldredge, but fielding phone calls at the office? Not so much.

At the 2016 CMT Music Awards tonight, the show will open with a short film featuring Nashville’s biggest stars, including Bryan and Eldredge, Jason Aldean, Kellie Pickler, Florida Georgia Line and Billy Ray Cyrus.

“Hey Erin . . . I mean, boss,” Bryan jokes with host Erin Andrews in a sneak peek of the open shared exclusively with PEOPLE. “Hello Luke, working hard?” she quips back.

“You kidding me? I’m getting my pre-game on. This isn’t coffee,” jokes the singer. “Everybody wants to be on the show . . . moguls, rockstars, rappers. It’s crazy!”

Working a bit harder (or at least trying to) is Bryan’s officemate Eldredge, who’s having a bit of trouble with his office tasks.

“I hung up on them. How do I even do this,” says Eldredge as he fiddles with his phone and headset. Responds Bryan: “Mine’s not even on. Just makes me look cool.”

In another clip, the “president” of CMT (a.k.a. Darius Rucker) lays down the law when his authority is questioned by JJ Watt (who’s co-hosting the show with Andrews). “Think fast, punk,” says Rucker as he throws a football into Watt’s face.

The 2016 CMT Awards will air live tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
