Kathy Griffin is as frank as they come and, according to the comedian, Taylor Swift could use a jolt of honesty, especially when it comes to fashion.

Saturday’s Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala at The Beverly Hilton drew a bevy of entertainment heavy-hitters including Griffin and Swift. And while the duo were not attending the event together, Griffin, 54, says they should have.

“How is Taylor Swift missing the opportunity to be my best friend?” Griffin tells PEOPLE.

Though admittedly, their would-be friendship will require Swift, 25, to have thick skin. The Fashion Police host explains, “If she could [get] past the part where I would call her names for a while. Because if you’re going to show up in a jumpsuit that looks like you went to a four-year-olds party you’re going to hear from me, and I say that with love.”

But maybe tough love is just what the singer needs.

“I bring the down-to-Earth qualities that are clearly lacking in her judgment in men, and also in fashion,” Griffith said. “So I would just keep it real with her, and say, ‘Girl, you just call me before you leave the house!’ ”

But not all of Swift’s choices are bad ones. According to the TV host she really digs Swift’s “revenge dresses.”

“I like her when she’s in those dresses where you can pretty much, well, it’s pretty much a pap smear – that’s how short the skirt is – and it’s clearly a message to Harry Styles, John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, and whichever Kennedy it’s a message that, ‘You could have had this.’ ”

The comedian adds, “She’s got eighteen-foot-long legs and I would be wearing the same thing if I could.”
