Leave it to Jesse Eisenberg to find a dark cloud in the silver lining of awards season.

“It’s very nice to be a part of something that’s been received this well,” the Golden Globe-nominated star of The Social Network tells PEOPLE, but adds with a laugh, “although it just kind of sets you up for a great disappointment later in life.”

Eisenberg, 27, has received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, but the New York-bred actor is still adjusting to being recognized by his peers.

“It’s strange to meet people who are very recognizable in a way where they’ve also seen me in something,” Eisenberg said Saturday at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. “Every time you see somebody you’ve seen in a movie, it’s a little strange. You’re seeing them in a different context.”

The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Ricky Gervais, air live Jan. 16 on NBC at 5 p.m. from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
