Country star Jana Kramer may be engaged to Brantley Gilbert but don’t expect her to go easy on her fiancé this weekend in Las Vegas.

The future husband and wife are competing Sunday for the same best new artist trophy at the Academy of Country Music Awards (along with duo Florida Georgia Line).

“We’re up against each other and we’ve got our gloves on!” Kramer, 29, tells PEOPLE, jokingly.

The two became engaged on Gilbert’s 28th birthday at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., the site of the former Grand Ole Opry stage.

Kramer, who some people remember as Alex Dupre from One Tree Hill, left Hollywood for Nashville to pursue her singing dreams.

“I’m now living in Nashville and I love it so much,” Kramer says. “I’m so thankful I did. “I do miss acting a little bit and maybe in the future I’ll try to make both of them work, but right now I’m just focusing on my music.”

Kramer will be on tour all summer with Blake Shelton, as well as headlining the Stagecoach music festival this year.

Tune in for the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, April 7 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
