Amy Schumer might have walked the Golden Globes red carpet with sister Kim Caramele, but it’s clear new boyfriend Ben Hanisch wasn’t far from her mind.

“We’re in love and it’s really exciting,” she told PEOPLE Sunday on the red carpet.

Schumer revealed her relationship with the Chicago-based furniture designer last Tuesday, and later confirmed Hanisch would be at the Globes although Caramele would be her official date.

The comedian admitted that Hanisch is the first boyfriend that that she’s had in the public eye – but definitely not her first boyfriend ever.

“I’ve never been dating anyone that the public’s really known about,” she said. “But I like that everyone thinks I’ve been single my whole life. They’re like, ‘She got her first boyfriend!’ and I m like, ‘No, I’ve dated people over the years.’ ”

Earlier Sunday, Hanisch shared a cozy new pic of the couple, and wished her well on her big night, which includes a nomination for best actress in a motion picture, comedy or musical, alongside pal Jennifer Lawrence.

“So excited for this woman tonight!” he captioned the black-and-white selfie of the pair wearing sunglasses and casual clothing, seemingly while on a hike.

Schumer also showed off her bond with Caramele on the red carpet while the pair spoke with Ryan Seacrest.

After Schumer showed off the bloodied knuckles she injured while boxing the day before, Caramele – who cowrote the forthcoming comedy the pair also penned with pal Jennifer Lawrence – proved that a sense of humor runs in the family.

Caramele amusingly encouraged Schumer to bust a move on camera, despite Schumer’s insistence that “I don’t dance – I don’t know why she said that!”

But the comedian ultimately complied, briefly getting down while Caramele started a cheer.

After the impromptu dance show, Caramele then did an apparent about-face.

“Don’t dance,” Caramele said, faux-seriously.

“You just told me to dance!” Schumer retorted.

“But we’re live,” Caramele responded and Schumer rolled her eyes in jest.

The 73rd annual Golden Globes, hosted by Ricky Gervais, are being presented live from Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on NBC.
