The couple have been dating since 2014

Making their first awards-show appearance together as a couple at the Golden Globes, Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander did not disappoint.

The two sat next to each other during the award show ceremony.

Before taking their seats inside, the actor, 38, gushed about his girlfriend’s impressive year, telling Entertainment Tonight he’s “very proud” of her.

Vikander, a double nominee for her performances in The Danish Girl and Ex Machina, wore a pleated white dress with a ruffle trim around her neck.

Fassbender – who was nominated for best performance by an actor in a motion picture, drama for his portrayal of the Apple legend Steve Jobs – wore a sleek black tux.

Fassbender said that after the ceremony is over, he hopes to have a minute to celebrate with Vikander, 27, as they both have to catch early flights the next morning.

“She heads back to Vegas and I head back to London,” he said. “But hopefully we’ll get a minute together. That would be nice.”

He continued: “We’ll have a few drinks and then we’re both out of here early [in the] morning.”

At the NBC Universal party later in the night, the two posed for selfies, making funny faces and hand signs near the bar alone. An observer tells PEOPLE the two were huddled close and seemed to be happy and in great spirits together.

The starry couple, who have remained low-key about their relationship, first met on the set of their film The Light Between Oceans in 2014 and have been romantically linked ever since.

The 73rd annual Golden Globes, hosted by Ricky Gervais, are being presented live on NBC from Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
