Ariel Winter may not be starting school in the fall, but she’s still a Bruin at heart.

The Modern Family star, 18, discussed why she was forced to defer her start date at UCLA while on the red carpet at the 2016 Emmy Awards.

“The problem was that I had made my schedule, when I went to production we couldn’t make it work this year because of heavy story lines,” she told E! News.

But Winter said she isn’t letting the delay deter her from her dream of becoming an attorney.

“I’m super excited to go next year,” she said.

The actress has previously spoken about not letting her acting career keep her from furthering her education.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to become a lawyer, and social justice just feels like it fits for me,” she told PEOPLE in January. “I want to continue acting and also go to law school. I think the more knowledge you have, can only better your life.”

But that doesn’t mean she’s forgetting about fashion as she stunned in a form-fitting sheer dress with silver beading Sunday.

“I love the dress, I saw it and I thought I definitely have to wear it,” she said of her red carpet look. “This was actually the quickest decision.”

Modern Family is once again nominated for outstanding comedy series.
