Anthony Anderson turned the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards into a father-son bonding night.

On Sunday, Anthony, 45, hit the red carpet at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with his teenage son, Nathan.

The funny man, who is nominated for lead actor in a comedy for black-ish, spoke to E!’s Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet about how Nathan got lucky enough to join him on the big night.

When Rancic asked the actor about his most emotional call of the day, he said, “My mother, of course. My mother was hysterical as always. That’s why I couldn’t bring her tonight, because it would have been all about her. So I brought my son with me … Nathan.”

After motioning for Nathan to come over, the proud dad introduced him to the camera.

“This is Nathan Anderson. This is who Andre Jr. on black-ish is about,” he said, explaining the inspiration behind a character on his ABC comedy.

Things were even cuter when the guys jokingly adjusted their bowties on the red carpet while cameras snapped away. While Anthony went for a classic black tux, his son opted for a blue outfit. As it turns out, Nathan takes after his dad in the fashion department.

“Yeah, I guess I got to say him,” he said when Rancic asked where Nathan got his style from.

Then Nathan got a tough question, with Rancic asking, “What’s something people don’t know about your dad?”

“You can be honest,” Anthony told him.

“He’s just as loud here everywhere,” Nathan answered. “He’s not putting it on for show – this is just him.”

The Emmy Awards are airing live in Fox.
