Chris Rock Calls Oscars the 'White BET Awards' Following Controversy Surrounding Academy's Lack of Diversity
For the second year in a row, actors of color were shut out of the nominations. The Oscars class of 2016 is once again solely composed of white actors and actresses, despite the Academy taking steps to address diversity.
The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite has been trending on social media due to the lack of minority races in any of the four major acting categories in addition to the Academy receiving backlash for snubbing African-American-led films like Straight Outta Compton, Beasts of No Nation and Concussion.
In the video, Rock teases three reasons why viewers should watch the Feb. 28 telecast: “Presenter cleavage,” “Check out who died this year” and “I might curse.”
