The actor won for his role in Olive Kitteredge but wasn't present to collect his statuette
He won in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie at Sunday’s Emmy Awards, but Bill Murray wasn’t present to accept his statuette. And he was absent for a very good reason, too: He was attending his son’s wedding.
Luke Murray, an assistant basketball coach at Xavier University in Ohio, married Kara Cassidy on Saturday in Philadelphia. The blog Philly Chit Chat noted that over the weekend more than a few locals noted that Bill Murray had foregone the Hollywood shindig for his son’s big day. The Groundhog Day actor, 65, was also spotted around Philadelphia starting on Friday.
At the ceremony, Bill Murray’s brother, actor Joel Murray, snapped a photo with Saturday Night Live writer Jim Downey, actor Brian Doyle-Murray and the groom.
According to an Instagram post by one of the members of the band that played at the reception, Bill Murray also jumped onstage and performed with them.
Murray won for his role in the HBO miniseries Olive Kiittredge, which also garnered wins for Richard Jenkins (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie), Frances McDormand (Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie and in five more categories, including Outstanding Limited Series. Murray also turned 65 on Monday, so he has plenty of reasons to be celebrating.
