BLOGILATES

SUBSCRIBERS: 1.3 MILLION

What It Is

Certified Pilates instructor Cassey Ho started posting online videos when a cross-country move left her clients sorely missing her workouts. Nearly five years later she is one of the biggest YouTube stars, thanks to routines like the “Call Me Maybe” Mighty Squat Challenge, which has burned the thighs of 4 million viewers. “At the end of the day, it’s all about my fans,” she says. “Whatever they want, that’s what I do.”

A staffer was skeptical of the short videos at first. “What on earth can you do in five minutes that will change your body?” But after the workouts, “I was in so much pain!” she said. “And then my legs felt stronger.” Requiring no equipment, Blogilates is a good starting point for someone who is new to exercise or wants to target a specific area to see – make that feel – results.

What It Is

Husband and wife Daniel and Kelli Segars decided to use their years of fitness experience to create more than 350 full-length videos. “We wanted to be accessible to everyone, regardless of income or access to a gym,” says Daniel. Choose from any kind of workout – high-intensity interval training, kettlebell, kickboxing – just don’t expect a drill sergeant. “We’re right there sweating, huffing and puffing with you in real time,” says Kelli.

Just in time for bikini season, a staffer gave Slim & Toned Arms a go. “I definitely broke a sweat and it got my heart rate up,” she said. Bonus: “The girls seem like they’d be fun to hang out with.”

MIKE CHANG, 31

SIX-PACK SHORTCUTS

SUBSCRIBERS: 2.5 MILLION

What It Is

A 10-minute workout, five days a week – along with a healthy diet – is all you need to get great abs, says Mike Chang, who began bulking up to protect himself when he was growing up in a rough neighborhood. As for his channel’s ab session, “It’s the body part people want the most and have the biggest problem getting,” he says. Just don’t spend all day on it. “Stick with simple, effective exercises,” he says. “There’s more to life than working out.”

Along with 13.6 million other people, a staffer tackled Chang’s Five-Minute Belly Fat Destroyer video. “His exercises are not revolutionary, but that doesn’t mean they are at all easy!” she said, noting that the video is useful for learning the right form. “When I finished, it was hard to actually stand up straight, but his insanely chiseled body wasn’t so bad to look at.”

SCOTT HERMAN, 29

SCOTT HERMAN FITNESS

SUBSCRIBERS: 546,000

What It Is

If there’s one thing Scott Herman learned as a cast member of Real World Brooklyn, it was the power of social media. “After the show I wanted to build an online fitness community,” says the personal trainer, who started lifting weights at 14 to cope with being bullied. “At first I just wanted to help people,” he says. But now it’s his fan base – a.k.a. “Hermanites” – who keep him afloat: “On the days I’m tired, I tell them, ‘You guys inspire me to keep going.’ ”

“This workout is no joke,” said a staffer about My Chest Workout, which has 4.5 million clicks. “A lot of Scott’s videos are for experienced weight-lifters and gym bunnies who know their way around a bench press and cable equipment.”
