Walking is the perfect exercise “because it doesn’t take too much time,” says the singer, 37. “I don’t have to go anywhere or make an appointment; I can just walk out my door.” The mother of three hits the pavement every afternoon for a speed-walking session that lasts “no less than 45 minutes.” Sometimes she goes at it alone, but a few times each week her girlfriends get together and walk as a group. “We all have children, so for us it’s an escape,” says Evans, before breaking into a sly grin. “And we never gossip….No, never!”

On tour, the Rascal Flatts guitarist and bandmates Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus stay in shape with regular visits to the band’s mobile fitness center: a semitrailer packed with weight machines, a punching bag and several TV screens tuned to sports. “You gotta stay active out here or it’ll drive you stir-crazy,” says Rooney, 32, who exercises nearly every day, drinks lots of water and follows a no-red-meat diet.

Bush, a father of two, agrees. “I feel a lot more balanced,” he says, adding, “Try it, just once. If you think it’s for sissies, you are in a brand-new world.”

After giving birth to daughter Daisy Pearl in July, Roads, 38, took it easy. “I had a caesarean, so I wasn’t allowed to exercise for six weeks except to walk—just slow walking.” Gradually the singer picked up her pace until she was jogging five days a week while pushing Daisy in a stroller. “I gained 24 lbs. during pregnancy, and I’m still getting rid of my little Daisy bump, as I call it,” she says, “but I’m at the weight I want to be.” Her exercise advice for new moms? “Patience.”

“I do circuit training at least 45 minutes five days a week,” says Clark, who dropped 10 lbs. by cutting out fried foods and refined sugar while eating a high-protein diet.
