Sweetness and Light

Stars are beating the summer heat with flirty pale dresses and matching ankle-tied espadrilles. Cool … and still sizzling

JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT out and about in L.A.

It’s a belt, not a bra, Keira Knightley! Besides looking uncomfortable, the star’s outfit seems like a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen in London.

Behind the Seams

SHADE-Y DEALINGS: That Miami sun can get pretty hot, but Jamie Foxx’s peepers were protected in style: The star wore Robert Marc sunglasses for his role as Ricardo Tubbs in Miami Vice. (The company sent him six pairs in case of action-scene and/or merrymaking-with-Colin Farrell-induced breakage.) The square-shaped lenses are chic, lightweight—and way more fashionable than the ones he wore in Ray….

BIKINI BABES: File Kelly Ripa and Felicity Huffman under Cool Moms Who Don’t Mind If Their Daughters Wear Crochet Bikinis. (Granted, said daughters are 5, but still.) Ripa got matching Lyla Blu rainbow suits for herself and daughter Lola, while Huffman purchased Army green versions for herself and her older daughter. Now about that matching Birkin bag, Mommy …

HOT WHEELS: Yes, she had to hold on to a bar to keep from wiping out while wearing them, but the Skub Bros. skates Jessica Simpson dons in her “A Public Affair” video are still pretty darn cute. Simpson liked them so much, the designers created custom wheels for sister Ashlee and their parents. Featuring mini rims in the wheels, the skates are suitably glittery in a video that also features stars Eva Longoria and Christina Milian, among others. No word on whether the skates have recovered from Andy Dick’s, uh, special treatment.

Trend of the Week

How are stars winning this summer’s battle of the frizz? With a long-and-loose sexy side plait that’s a little bit Rapunzel, a little bit Helen of Troy. Whether it’s Jessica Alba‘s casual beachside look, Jessica Simpson‘s slightly tousled take or Liv Tyler‘s dressed-up, voluminous version, the sideswept braid is equally at home on the street and the red carpet. And it’s definitely more grown-up than Pippi Longstocking pigtails.

Island Girl

If Rihanna was ever stranded on a deserted island, there’s at least one thing she’d be sending an S.O.S. for: Cake beauty products, which she became a fan of after trying them at a recent photo shoot. The singer particularly likes the Desserted Island bath and body collection—which contains mango butter and coconut oil—because they remind her of her home in Barbados. The Lost folk should be so lucky.

Not that they need it quite yet, but fresh-faced stars like Kirsten Dunst and Rachel Bilson came out to celebrate Chanel’s latest anti-aging potion, Sublimage (launching in September), which was feted at an intimate dinner party July 19 in Hollywood. Though the wait list for the cream (which contains the juice of the rare Planifolia plant, said to hydrate and fight wrinkles) is already well over 1,000 fountain-of-youth-seekers long, Jennifer Aniston procured a jar from her makeup artist. Crafty!

I really LOVE my …

Petra Nemcova must’ve taken one look at this chic mini and decided—to paraphrase beau James Blunt—it’s beautiful. Though she initially went the sexy route, wearing it with a cami and heels in 2005, she has since gone slightly more demure, pairing it with babydolls and flats. Meanwhile, the skirt has accumulated enough frequent flier miles to score a first class ticket to Cabo … which is probably one of the few places it hasn’t made an appearance. Yet.

Her latest album may be called Loose, but Nelly Furtado’s sexy new look in her “Promiscuous” video is definitely tight. Here’s how the 27-year-old singer did it.

“Her body changed so much after she had a baby,” says Furtado’s stylist Charlene Roxborough, who used Louis Vuitton, Azzaro and Rock & Republic. (Furtado had daughter Nevis in 2003.) “She’s more voluptuous. I wanted to enhance that without going over the top.”

The stylist culled striking vintage pieces by Kenneth Jay Lane and Hermès, among others, from Coquette boutique in L.A.

“[Furtado] is very happy with the way she looks,” says Roxborough. “It’s a whole new vibe that goes with the flow of the music.”
