Behind the Seams

  • LUCKY LADIES: Pennies? Bah! What a Golden Globe nominee really wants for luck is diamonds. Since 2000, L’Oréal has given female Globe contenders a carat-riddled compact to carry and this year’s hopefuls—including actress Eva Longoria—will receive a more than 3.5-carat version with a gold four-leaf clover. The less famous can buy the crystal version. Everybody wins….

SMOOTH OPERATOR: Matthew McConaughey knows a bit about face cream—hey, the guy makes his own. But after seeing girlfriend Penélope Cruz’s kisser look so smooth after her at-home Derma New Facial Rejuvenation treatments, the Texan decided to try the competition. He called the company and they sent him a kit with microdermabrasion cream and resurfacing tool. What guy can resist tools? …

WHAT IF? Both Jennifer Garner and Drew Barrymore loaned their noses to Apothia owner Ron Robinson to help him create his 2001 cult-hit scented oil IF (Reese Witherspoon and Kirsten Dunst buy and wear it, and Madonna orders it in bulk). GET THE SKINNY: Superfashionable celebs are wearing fall’s superskinny It jeans. Their pair of choice? Earnest Sewn’s Harlan jean. That’s fashion-forward thinking.

  • We caught up with Queen Latifah to ask her Highness’s opinions on glamorous style and get the scoop on her latest beauty venture.

Tell us about Queen, your line of cosmetics with CoverGirl.

It’s for women of color but not of any particular race. It’s at an affordable price not just about creating things that you as a Hollywood actor can buy, but that your mom could have afforded to buy when you were growing up. We had to bring it back to the people.

Do you do your own makeup or does your makeup artist Roxanna Floyd?

No, Roxanna costs! I don’t wear the full thing every day, but I’ll throw on my gloss and some LashExact mascara myself.

What’s your favorite thing about getting glammed up?

Its a chance to enjoy feminine beauty. Guys are kind of stuck to a haircut and have to wear suits, but we really get to be glamorous. Even if you feel crappy about yourself, put a little makeup on, get your hair done and you feel better.

What’s your least favorite thing about dressing up?

The time it takes to do it. Fittings are my enemy. I hate fittings.

Worn belted like Kelly Rowland’s or open like Lindsay Lohan‘ s, these comfy cover-ups are easy to wear and hard to miss.
