From coast to coast, celebs are stepping out in the most festive fabric of the season—plush, jewel-toned velvet

MICHAEL MICHELE, in Peter Som, at a party in N.Y.C.

JAIME KING, also in Peter Som, at a premiere in L.A.

CLAIRE DANES, in Jean Paul Gaultier, at the N.Y.C. Shopgirl premiere.

MARCIA CROSS, in Alberta Ferretti, at a ball in Beverly Hills.

Behind the Seams

BOSS GLOSS: She talks to spirits as the Ghost Whisperer, but Jennifer Love Hewitt wants her lips to look alive. So her on-set makeup artist introduced her to Skin Alison Raffaele Soft Gloss, and she’s been singing its praises ever since. “I love, love, love them!” coos Hewitt. “My favorite color is Vivacious, but I also wear Lovely, Elegant and Hip, depending on what look I’m going for.” All are flavored with vanilla, so any shade makes Hewitt quite the sweet talker….

BLUE GENES: They’re not related by blood, but club owner Scott Sartiano shares his Genetics with a slew of celebs—many of them devotees of his hip N.Y.C. nightspot Butter. Genetic Denim, a new line of jeans Sartiano created with Ali Fatourechi and Shaun Hurley, is being worn by Lindsay Lohan, Sienna Miller, Mary-Kate Olsen and Jeremy Piven. They come in three styles called—what else?—Recessive Gene, Dominant Gene and Mutated Gene. It’s one big happy family….

HATS OFF: Shania Twain and friends are putting their heads together to help her favorite charity. The singer persuaded celebs including LeAnn Rimes and Jewel to decorate Stetson cowboy hats that will be sold on eBay. All proceeds go to America’s Second Harvest, which fights hunger across the U.S. The auction, sponsored by Stetson Fragrances, begins on Nov. 17, to coincide with the Country Music Association Awards, and ends on the 24th.

She stars with 50 Cent in Get Rich or Die Tryin’, but Joy Bryant looks like a million bucks in a sleek Yves Saint Laurent gown at the film’s L.A. premiere.

Who knew that amethyst would be so easy on the eyes? Purple shadow goes “with any hair, skin or eye color,” says makeup artist Tina Turnbow. “It’s universal.”

DO go for lilac and pale or opalescent purples on fair skin, jewel tones on dark skin.

DON’T match lips to eyes, or do cheeks and lips in mauve.

DO graduate the color—from lighter shades on the inner corners of the eyes to darker shades at the crease.
