Bright Spots

Most celebrities adore being noticed—especially when it’s for the bright reason. “Wearing color is an expression of happiness,” says New York City stylist Rebecca Weinberg, who helped Annabella Sciorra into Dolce & Gabbana’s purple shearling coat. Selma Blair looks content cloaked in a bold wool Versace, while Lisa Ling takes a subtler approach, jazzing up jeans and a Burberry coat with an orange, mandarin-collared top. “How you wear color is a reflection of your taste and how you feel,” adds Weinberg. “It means you’re confident, that you feel good about yourself.” And choosing a hue isn’t an art form, she says, “have fun with it.” In other words, look at the bright side of life—then wear it.

Behind the Seams

HEART-Y FOLK: Stars are sporting a sentimental favorite these days, the locket. Today’s versions drip with ice, like the $35,000 Fred Leighton antique diamond locket Faith Hill wore to the People’s Choice Awards and the $12,000 Neil Lane one she donned the next night to the American Music Awards. She’s in good company: Halle Berry and Annette Bening have received Neil Lane diamond lockets from loved ones….

GOLD STANDARD: Award season in Hollywood means it’s time to gift stars with sensational swag. L’Oréal leads the pack with an 18-karat gold compact dotted with Swarovski crystals that holds two Colour Riche lip products and two Touch-On-Colours for cheeks and eyes. And you don’t have to be Nicole Kidman to get one—just enter the L’Oréal Sweepstakes at http://www.lorealparis.com between Jan. 20-Feb. 20….

BOTTOMS UP! Blue Cult “Butt Lifter” jeans—loved by Gwyneth and Britney—make derrieres appear higher. Designers David Mechaly and Caroline Athias say the trick is in the higher placement of the back pocket. Kelly Osbourne swears by the $110 seat-savers. She’ll even be wearing them in an upcoming Pepsi commercial in which she’s transported into the future—where, who knows, Kelly may be blessed with a loftier caboose of her own.

A Berry New Hue

Style icon Sofia Coppola, who has cast a spell over everything from film (The Virgin Suicides) to fashion (as muse to Marc Jacobs), has now made her mark in makeup. When Coppola wanted her favorite lipstick in a specific new shade, she went straight to the source: Jillian Dempsey, founder of Delux Beauty and creator of its popular Tintstiks (Chap Sticklike tubes that condition as well as color). Coppola and Dempsey’s resulting collaboration, called Darling, is a sheer raspberry shade now sweetening the lips of Drew Barrymore and models Amber Valetta and Helena Christensen. “The color is a deep berry that works for most skin tones,” says L.A. makeup artist Pati Dubroff. “Everyone I use it on loves it.”

Gab Hatters

It’s doubtful Penélope Cruz and Sarah Michelle Gellar were calling one another to collaborate on shopping garb, but the connection is clear—funky newsboy caps and jaunty jackets are definitely the word.

This Just ‘In’…

Pout Cosmetics

WHAT IS IT? A saucy new makeup line from London that’s headed Stateside.

CREATORS: Chantal Laren, 32, Emily Cohen, 32, and Anna Singh, 26, joined forces and backgrounds—in advertising, public relations and fashion, respectively—to create Pout, a makeup line based on their favorite pieces of lingerie. “When a woman wears sexy underwear, it makes her feel good and alive and a bit naughty,” says Cohen. “That’s exactly what we wanted to create with our line.”

FOLLOWERS: Gwyneth Paltrow, Britney Spears and Claudia Schiffer are big fans.

WHY IT’S HOT: The founders credit their success to Pout’s über-girlie concept, colors and lacy, racy packaging. “We’ve designed something fun and frivolous,” says Cohen of their products, which have names like Bite My Cherry gloss, 36DD lip pencil and Eye Want You eyeliner. “The wit is wonderful. People will come in and ask for a product, and it makes them laugh.”

MUST-HAVES: Pop My Bubble lip gloss, $16; Flush Blush cheek color, $24; and Eye Slick, $22, a liquid eye shadow are their top-selling items—and celeb faves.

AVAILABLE: Louis Boston and Manhattan’s Henri Bendel on Jan. 31
