Am I Blue?

Suddenly stars are blue, and you can be too. Turquoise—the semiprecious, sky-colored stone long identified with the Southwest—is popping up on bracelets and necklaces. “It has a certain mystique,” says jeweler Don Lucas, who outfitted Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar with a turquoise bracelet for the Emmys. “It’s such a bright, attractive color,” agrees Ally McBeal’s Portia de Rossi, who recently bought a ring and bracelet decorated with the gemstone. “It makes your skin look really pretty.”

With casual clothes, “turquoise looks good when you pile it on,” says Hollywood fashion stylist Vivian Turner, whose clients include Sharon Stone. A plus for New Age types: Turquoise, said to ward off illness, may be just the thing for cold-and-flu season. “I’m a very healthy person,” says The View cohost Lisa Ling, who wears a turquoise bracelet, “and I want to stay that way.”
