2015 Met Gala
The Best & Boldest Looks!
THIS YEAR’S COSTUME INSTITUTE GALA THEME (‘CHINA: THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS’) WAS A TRICKY ONE. BUT THESE STARS WERE MORE THAN UP FOR THE CHALLENGE
The singer’s massive Guo Pei Haute Couture design required three handlers to help carry it up the museum steps. “It’s handmade by one Chinese woman,” she said on the red carpet. “It took two years to make.”
“I think it’s going to take 45 to 46 fittings,” the evening’s cohost said in March of her mixed-media Dior Haute Couture look that she paired with dazzling Cartier jewels.
Coming up with creative ways to show some skin is easy for the star, whose custom Atelier Versace illusion dress depicted a dragon wrapping around her body.
Deep emerald and blue iridescent feathers adorned the actress’s plunging side-slit bespoke Altuzarra gown, giving her the appearance of an elegant bird of paradise.
The star complemented her glitzy stretch-tulle Michael Kors gown with a Lorraine Schwartz hair accessory. “She is a golden girl,” the designer said. “How could she not be in a golden dress?”
In case her status as Queen of the Met Ball needed to be solidified, she collaborated on a flaming Philip Treacy headpiece to go with her poppy-embroidered H&M gown.
This hooded custom Ralph Lauren Collection lamé gown is made of fabric milled in Italy from real metal fibers. “I actually feel weirdly confident in it,” she said. “There’s something protective about it.”
“She saw it for the first time on Saturday”—just two days before the ball!—stylist Cristina Ehrlich tells People of this Giambattista Valli Haute Couture piece. “But it was perfect.”

GODDESS IN GREEN
The gown took just over a month to assemble. “We only showed Kendall one option—the perfect one!” reveals Costa. “The color was really the starting point for this piece. I wanted it to resemble jade, which to me is very emblematic of China [the gala’s theme].”

“The lace-up detail makes the dress more delicate and emphasizes Kendall’s amazing shape,” the brand’s women’s creative director Francisco Costa tells PEOPLE.
Cylindrical beads “were woven into a base of mesh to create a three-dimensional pattern,” Costa says. Smoke-colored crystals were individually sewn on top.
