ALL THE NEWS & BUZZ FROM HOLLYWOOD
CHRIS MARTIN & JENNIFER LAWRENCE
MAKING PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
DISTANCE CERTAINLY MADE THEIR HEARTS GROW fonder. Since returning to Los Angeles after she spent two months in Massachusetts shooting the upcoming biopic Joy, Jennifer Lawrence has “seemed happier than ever” with Chris Martin, says a source close to the actress. “Jen is giddy when she talks about Chris.” The under-the-radar couple was last spotted publicly in early April, when they reunited for a cozy weekend in New York City. The Hunger Games star, 24, and the Coldplay frontman, 38—who were first linked last June and got back together after a brief break in the fall—”have been spending a lot of time together,” says the Lawrence source. “They are always having fun.” While a typical date night for the pair includes a low-key dinner (they’re big fans of Italian food) and a movie, they’ve also spent time with her friends, who “think he’s good for her,” says the source. “He always makes Jen feel beautiful.” Next up? A getaway! Adds the source: “They’re hoping and planning to go on a relaxing vacation together.”
Over the weekend Lawrence showed off new hair extensions during a night out with Lorde and at a performance of Finding Neverland.
Lawrence, who cohosted the Met Gala on May 4 (see page 22 for more from fashion’s big night), will soon head to Montreal to shoot X-Men: Apocalpyse. But being separated has never been an issue for the couple, who both have full plates and “communicated daily” while the actress was in Boston, according to a Martin insider. “They respect each other,” the insider adds. “They see each other when they can, yet each continues to do their own thing. They like it that way.” The rocker, who finalized his divorce from Gwyneth Paltrow (the exes share two kids, Apple, 11, and Moses, 9) in late April, “is romantic and very thoughtful,” says the Lawrence source. “Jen thinks Chris is very real. He makes her happy.”

ZOOEY DESCHANEL’S CHARMING PAD
The New Girl star, 35, is selling her 3-bedroom, 2½-bath home. According to Westside Estate Agency’s Sara Berger, the Hollywood Hills abode has a lovely guesthouse.
THE 93-YEAR-OLD BUSINESSWOMAN, DESIGNER AND FASHION ICON FINALLY GETS HER DUE IN THE NEW ALBERT MAYSLES DOCUMENTARY, IRIS
Since the 2005 Costume Institute exhibit of your clothing and jewelry collection, you have become world-famous. Does that surprise you?
Oh, yes, my life took a big turn. It’s amazing. My fans are multigenerational and cross-gender. I went to Brazil last year and I was mobbed at the airport.
Your glasses have become your signature. How did that happen?
I never had a business plan. I always thought eyeglass frames were very stylish accessories. When I was a kid, I’d go to the flea market and buy a pair, even if I didn’t need to wear lenses. Now that I need them, people say, “Why are they so large?” And I say, “The better to see you,” and that shuts them up!
Who are your style icons now?
Nobody is original anymore. People are so casual today, and I don’t think you should go out to the theater or to a beautiful party dressed like you are going to the gym.
What’s the oldest thing in your closet?
I still have the dress I wore on my first date with [100-year-old husband] Carl 68 years ago. It’s a Norell, it still fits, and I love it dearly.
You have been credited with starting a whole new generation of senior supermodels.
It’s about time. That market has been sadly neglected. The youth market needs to be served, but older women with expendable income can’t find anything to buy because nothing is suited for them.
TIGER WOODS & LINDSEY VONN
BEHIND THEIR SPLIT
When Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods announced their breakup on May 3 after nearly three years of dating, few could argue with the reason cited for the split: their incredibly hectic lives. “Unfortunately,” as Vonn, 30, wrote on social media, and Woods, 39, followed with a similar post on his website, the demands and logistics of being two of the world’s top athletes “force us to spend a majority of our time apart.” Woods, for one, is back on the golf tournament circuit—Vonn joined his kids, Sam, 7, and Charlie, 6, to cheer him on at the Masters in April—while the Olympic gold medalist gears up for the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea. And there appear to be no hard feelings. “I have great admiration, respect and love for Lindsey, and I’ll always cherish our time together,” Woods says. Echoes Vonn, who told People recently that Woods is “an amazing father,” in her post: “He and his beautiful family will always hold a special place in my heart.”
UNLOCKING THE TRUTH
FROM STREET BAND TO SUPERSTARS
Malcolm Brickhouse has wanted to be a rock star since he was 7. He didn’t have to wait long for his dream to come true. “I didn’t know it was gonna happen this fast,” says the eighth grader, whose rock trio Unlocking the Truth went from performing on New York City’s sidewalks to getting a recording contract in two years. They’ve performed at the Coachella music festival, opened for Guns N’ Roses, and released a memoir (in stores now). Their goal, he says, is to be “as big as Metallica.”
AMAL CLOONEY’S SISTER TALA ALAMUDDIN
The New Pippa?
George and Amal Clooney are used to the flashing bulbs of the paparazzi. But at a family dinner at Caravaggio in Manhattan on April 28, all eyes were on Amal’s big sister Tala Alamuddin. Treating the sidewalk as if it were a runway, she stunned in a white outfit accented with a pair of knee-high, snakeskin-printed boots—just one of a handful of winning ensembles the Singapore-based entrepreneur and mother of four rocked during her recent visit. “Tala is a jewel,” says an Alamuddin relative. “She’s a giver. And very close with Amal.”
BRADLEY COOPER & IRINA SHAYK
ANOTHER MODEL RELATIONSHIP!
Bradley Cooper, 40, was spotted with Russian model Irina Shayk, 29, after they attended Hamilton in New York City on May 3. The pair kept close as they strolled downtown Manhattan after the play. “They definitely looked like a new couple,” says an onlooker. “They were holding hands and flirting.” The good-looking duo also frequently stopped for smooches. Both Cooper and the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED swimsuit cover model ended serious relationships earlier this year. Shayk split from soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, 30, in January after five years of dating. Meanwhile, Cooper parted ways from his girlfriend of two years, model Suki Waterhouse, 23, before the Oscars. While the two remain friends and were spotted together last month, Shayk need not worry: Waterhouse has been spotted with actor James Marsden.
THE HOST OF INSIDE COMEDY (TUESDAYS AT 11 P.M. ET/PT ON SHOWTIME) REFLECTS ON FOUR OF HIS MOST MEMORABLE GUESTS
“Seinfeld has done everything, he’s a genius, so I asked him what excites him. He said to me, ‘We were invited to do a thing for Paul McCartney at the White House, and I was onstage performing for Barack Obama.’ I thought, wow, he was just touched by that.”
“You never know what to expect with her. I asked her about coming out. She said, ‘You know, I was happily married [to a man]. I went to a party and looked across the room at a beautiful woman who was smiling at me. So I said to myself, “Hey, I think I’m a lesbian.”‘ It was hysterical.”
“What you heard about him was an understate- ment about how generous and sweet he was. What a remarkable person. It’s impossible for any of us who were close to him to understand what happened. It’s still hard for me to talk about it.”
“When you invite him to dinner, he’ll talk and talk and then, all of a sudden, he’s got to go and he leaves whenever he wants to. But you’d be surprised by Larry. He would never be rude, he would never put you down. He has this generosity in him that all of his friends know about.”
ONE to WATCH
Known for electronic dance hits like “Stay the Night,” the Russian-German deejay and music producer (alias Anton Zaslavski) has already teamed up with Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga. His new album True Colors is out May 19, but fame takes getting used to: Once in a restroom, a fan “started a conversation while I was peeing and wanted to take a picture—it was not the best time!”
THE STORY BEHIND THE CLOTHES
Living in the present is overrated.
Just ask Janie Bryant, the Emmy-winning costume designer behind the stunning period pieces on 1960s—’70 set Mad Men. “I had no idea it would become what it has,” she says of the AMC drama, which ends May 17 after seven seasons (see page 56 for more). “It’s been a huge journey. It’s bittersweet to say goodbye.” Bryant, 47, is designing uniforms for the newly renovated Watergate Hotel (yes, that one) and launches her Black Halo capsule collection in July.
BETTY (JANUARY JONES)
“The design of this gown is so old-fashioned. You can really see that Betty is out of touch with that era’s trends,” Bryant says.
JOAN (CHRISTINA HENDRICKS)
Though it’s now 1970, Bryant designed a “classic Joan” look: “I wanted that hourglass, bombshell silhouette.”
MEGAN (JESSICA PARE)
“Megan is a stylish woman, so she was going to be in a mini,” Bryant says.
PEGGY (ELISABETH MOSS)
“I got really excited to put Peggy in a pantsuit,” Bryant says. “It’s a symbol that Peggy is finally being taken seriously in this boys’ club.”
DON, PETE, KEN (JON HAMM, VINCENT KARTHEISER, AARON STATON)
“It’s a plaid extravaganza,” Bryant says. “It shows Megan’s influence on Don. She gets him out of stodgy suits to try something new.”
CATCHING UP WITH PITCH PERFECT 2’S
You play a new member of the Barden Bellas in Pitch Perfect 2. Did you love the original movie?
Totally! As a fan I felt like I knew all of the girls already. The fact that I’m in the second one is so cool.
Singing a cappella isn’t easy. Were you nervous?
I was equally excited as I was nervous. Singing has always been something that I love, but I’ve never taken it any further than the shower. You don’t realize how hard it is.
What was it like working with the all-star cast?
Sometimes when you are on a set all day long with some people, the last thing you want to do is see them over the weekend. But it never felt like that with us. We had movie nights and viewing parties for The Bachelor. It was awesome.
The Bellas are big into choreographed dance routines. Are you a dancer?
I wouldn’t consider myself a big dancer by any means, but it’s something I like to do, so I just jumped right in. It was very cool to feel like one for a minute.
Did you pick up Bella lingo quickly?
I just started to put “aca” in front of everything and that seemed to work!
