When skier Lindsey Vonn suffered a season-ending leg injury while competing at the Alpine World Ski Championships in Austria, it was golf legend Tiger Woods, 37, who came to her aid. Woods, himself no stranger to sports injuries, sent his private jet to swoop in and fly Vonn, 28, back to her home in Vail, Colo., where she would later undergo surgery for two torn ligaments in her right knee and a broken shinbone. But Woods’s help wasn’t just professional courtesy: The two star athletes have recently been dating. It’s the Olympic downhill champion’s first relationship since finalizing her divorce from ex-coach Thomas Vonn in January. “I’m excited to just be single for the first time in my life,” she told PEOPLE in October. “Where am I going to meet someone? I feel like I connect better with athletes, but I don’t even know where to begin.” Eventually Vonn found a connection with Woods, whom she first met at Tiger Jam, his annual charity event in Las Vegas for children’s programs, last April. Woods, who saw his professional and personal life detonate after a 2009 sex scandal, enjoys her laid-back personality, say friends. “She’s not freaked out by his past. That’s really appealing to him,” says a source close to Woods. “They talk a lot and are constantly texting each other. When she needed help with transport, he was the first person she called.” The source says the two are getting “closer and closer,” but Vonn says she is currently focused on healing. “It’s going to be a long and hard road back,” she posted on her Facebook page on Feb. 11. “But I will be back!” MAKEOVERS OF THE WEEK!
