LOST AND ALONE
There is something chilling and lonely about the troubles of Amanda Bynes. On May 24—the day after being arrested for allegedly smoking pot and lobbing a bong out the 36th-story window of her Manhattan building—the 27-year-old who was once the darling of Nickelodeon left court alone, wearing sweats and a tragic blonde wig. She returned to her apartment, where on Memorial Day she continued tweeting to a seemingly indifferent world. In a series of erratic missives, Bynes – who underwent a psych evaluation while in custody – denied drug use, accused the NYPD of lying and sexual harassment and said she would be suing. (Police dispute the claims.) “You can’t lock up an innocent person!” she wrote. “I’m getting in shape and getting a nose job! I’m looking forward to a long and wonderful career as a singer/rapper!”
Whatever is happening to Bynes, it is a painfully solitary journey. “I don’t speak to my parents anymore,” she tweeted on April 11. Family members declined to talk to PEOPLE. “It’s nothing personal, it’s just that none of us have any comment,” said her father, Rick, a dentist who launched his quick-witted daughter’s career as a kid comedian. But like so many young performers, Bynes pushed away hard from the life that brought her fame. “Most people who knew her as a teenager haven’t talked to her in years,” says a source from her Nickelodeon days. Why can’t anything be done? “If Amanda doesn’t think she has a problem she isn’t going to listen to someone who thinks she needs help,” says the source. It’s a long way from the poised child who charmed producer Clifford Werber on the set of 2007’s Sydney White. “I hope she can come back from whatever mess she’s in,” Werber said last fall, “and have the career she was meant to have.”

PENNY THORNTON, PRINCESS DIANA’S CHART READER, MAKES SOME PREDICTIONS ABOUT THE NEXT WINDSOR
The latest bets at British oddsmakers Ladbrokes aren’t favoring a fella, but if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge do have a son, the little prince will be “sensitive, caring and sweet-natured,” Thornton says. She adds that if he’s born between July 8 and 10, “he will have great charm,” though he’ll be “a lot easier to handle” if he arrives after the 10th.
“I see Diana’s influence very strongly,” Thornton says about a potential princess. (Diana, also a July baby, was a Cancer, as is William.) She’ll be “graceful, charming, charismatic, fair-minded and people-oriented” if born between July 14 and 16. Anyhow, she’ll be the “ultimate girlie girl” and destined to spend loads on fascinators.
TIGER & LINDSEY
Full speed ahead! Two months after confirming their relationship publicly, Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn are pushing the gas pedal on their romance. Though a source says the two planned to move forward “slowly,” things are blossoming at a steady clip: Over Memorial Day weekend, the golfer, 37, and the skiing star, 28, took his kids (with ex-wife Elin Nordegren)—Sam, 5, and Charlie, 4—wave-running near Woods’s Jupiter Island, Fla., home. They’ve also been on school drop-off duty together. Adds the insider: “They really want to have a normal relationship.”
JOHNNY DEPP & AMBER HEARD
TAKING IT PUBLIC
He’s shy about this sort of thing, so no surprise that Johnny Depp – who turns 50 on June 9 – has kept a low romantic profile since splitting from Vanessa Paradis, 40, last year. But things seem to be going somewhere with alleged girlfriend Amber Heard, 27, whom he met making The Rum Diary. At a Rolling Stones concert in Los Angeles on April 27, he actually held Heard’s hand (!), and on May 22 there was a whiff of PDA at a dinner with Keith Richards at Ago in West Hollywood. “He pulled her chair out for her and had his arm around her,” says an onlooker. Now calm down, everybody. A source says, “They’re both very private and prefer quiet date nights at home.”
LOSES AUNT TO CANCER
Two weeks after Angelina Jolie revealed her preventive double mastectomy, another close relative has died of cancer. After a brief hospitalization, Jolie’s aunt Debbie Martin, 61, died of breast cancer on May 26; her sister was the star’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died of ovarian cancer at 56 in 2007 (Jolie’s maternal grandmother also had ovarian cancer). The star’s uncle Raleigh Bertrand passed away of cancer in 2009. During her aunt’s final week, Jolie kept in close contact. “Angelina and my wife texted each other,” says Martin’s husband, Ron, who praises her surgery decision. “It takes a lot of courage,” he says. “Angelina did the smartest thing on earth.”
