THE NEW BACHELORETTE: EMILY MAYNARD

‘I FEEL LIKE A HYPOCRITE’

Let’s start with the question everyone is dying to ask Emily Maynard, 25, the North Carolina mom and newest Bachelorette: Would she date Bentley Williams, the villain who broke the last Bachelorette Ashley Hebert’s heart because she wasn’t Emily? “He would have to really show remorse,” she tells PEOPLE. “But one thing I have learned is to never say never.” Maynard, whose daughter Ricki, 6, will join her on location, has lived up to that motto. Last season she swore off reality-show love after ending her engagement with The Bachelor‘s Brad Womack. “I feel like the biggest hypocrite. At the time I was dealing with a breakup. I know this can work. I fell in love the first time-I would be crazy to pass it up.”

X FACTOR BLOODBATH

HOPING TO IMPROVE THE REALITY SHOW THAT WASN’T THE MEGAHIT HE HOPED IT WOULD BE, SIMON COWELL SHAKES UP THE JUDGES’ PANEL

Simon Cowell wrongly predicted that the first season of his show The X Factor would draw in 20 million viewers (in fact it averaged 12 million), and now he’s making good on his pledge to PEOPLE back in December that there would be a “bloodbath” of changes. Gone are host Steve Jones and judge Nicole Scherzinger, 33 (whose indecision led to fan favorite-and Cowell mentee-Rachel Crow’s early exit). But X Factor‘s most shocking elimination? Paula Abdul, 49, who didn’t quite capture the magic she had with Cowell, 52, on American Idol. “Paula was fired, but everything is amicable,” says a source. “Everyone understands that changes get made on these kinds of shows. They had a really fun time last season, but the show’s evolved.”

COUPLES REPORT

WHETHER THEY’RE WORKING IT OUT, MOVING ON WITH THEIR LIVES OR JUST CASTING DOUBT ON RUMORS OF A SPLIT, HOLLYWOOD’S HUGE CELEBRITY DUOS KEEP IT INTERESTING

GWEN STEFANI & GAVIN ROSSDALE

Brushing off a tabloid report that their nine-year marriage is about to end in divorce, Stefani, 42, and Rossdale, 46, were all smiles on Jan. 29. The musicians kissed and cuddled during a fishing trip with sons Kingston, 5, and Zuma, 3, near Malibu. Stefani, Rossdale tweeted Jan. 22, is “perfect.”

JADA PINKETT SMITH & WILL SMITH

Defying continued buzz of trouble in their marriage, Smith, 43, and his wife, 40, showed a united front courtside at the 76ers basketball game with son Jaden, 13, in Philadelphia Jan. 27. “Everybody goes through their trials and tribulations,” a Smith pal tells Scoop, but now “everybody’s doing great.”

HEIDI KLUM & SEAL

After announcing their split Jan. 22, Seal, 48, spent time with the couple’s four kids at their L.A. home (Klum, 38, stayed at a nearby hotel) before flying to Europe to promote his new album. Klum (with daughters Lou, 2, left, and Leni, 7) also resumed work on Germany’s Next Top Model. While both are still wearing their wedding rings, a reconciliation is unlikely, a source tells Scoop: “Heidi feels she made the right decision to separate. They are both fed up with the fighting.”

MARC ANTHONY & JENNIFER LOPEZ

After months of tension, sources say J.Lo, 42, and estranged husband Anthony, 43, recently made peace as they worked together on their Latin talent show ¡Q’Viva! The Chosen, which debuted Jan. 28-the same night Lopez danced on a table for boyfriend Casper Smart (inset), 24, at Miami’s Casa Tua.

ROYAL WATCH

CHARLOTTE OF MONACO

HER NEW MAN

PRINCESS CAROLINE’S DAUGHTER SHOCKS ROYAL WATCHERS BY SPLITTING WITH HER BEAU-AND DATING AN OLDER FRENCH COMIC

When Charlotte Casiraghi showed up for her uncle Prince Albert’s wedding last summer with her beau of four years, Alex Dellal, 28, “everyone,” a source close to the Monaco royals says, “was sure they’d announce their engagement.” Instead Casiraghi, 25, appears to have had a shocking change of heart-as witnessed by Paris Match’s recent cover touting her new romance with Gad Elmaleh, a 40-year-old divorced comic known as the French Jerry Seinfeld, whom she met at a party. “This came out of left field,” the source tells PEOPLE. And while little is known of her breakup with Dellal, a low-profile art dealer from a wealthy family, a London publicist who knows them says, “I doubt very much this was Alex’s idea.” As for the Moroccan-born Elmaleh-who had a small part in Midnight in Paris-“he’s a grand seducer,” says film critic Macha Sery. “Women love him.”

TATTOOPS!

FOREIGN-LANGUAGE, GRAMMAR AND SPELLING MISTAKES ARE JUST A FEW OF THE PERMANENT BOO-BOOS THAT EVEN CELEBRITIES HAVE TO LIVE WITH

Fans pointed out on Rimes’s Twitter page that her tribute tat to hubby Eddie Cibrian is grammatically incorrect: “The only one that matters” should read, “The only one who matters.”

An “h” was mistakenly added when Beckham had his arm inked with wife Victoria’s name written in Hindi script. Translated, it reads, “Vihctoria.” Multi-tattooed Beckham has said, “There’s not one tattoo that I’ve got on me that doesn’t mean something.”

Repeat offender Spears has a Chinese sign that reportedly says “strange” instead of “mysterious” on her hip. She also sported a neck tattoo of a misshapen Hebrew symbol intended to read “God.”

Rihanna‘s “rebelle fleur” (rebel flower) tattoo should instead read “fleur rebelle” for correct French. The frequent inker revealed she has “approximately 13” tattoos, among them one in reportedly misspelled Sanskrit on her hip.

“It has an extra ‘i,'” admitted Panettiere of her misspelled Italian tattoo, meant to read, “Live without regrets.” She added, “I’m left to live up to what it means. I’m proud of it!”
