It wasn’t one magic moment but two! Backstage at an Aussie awards ceremony in December 2006, DANIEL RADCLIFFE locked stares with a mystery girl. “She had these eyes,” the 18-year-old Harry Potter star told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph. Radcliffe, who is no longer seeing Laura O’Toole, an understudy in his London production of Equus, spent the rest of the evening trying to track the woman down “like some sad pathetic dweeb,” he lamented. In a twist straight out of Potter, the girl had vanished—until this week, when Cassi McKay, 20, a Sydney insurance worker, said she was the backstage temptress. “He was very friendly and normal. He seemed nervous and shy,” she says. But after McKay, another girl stepped forward: Savannah Blount, 23, a Melbourne saxophonist, says she also met and was charmed by Radcliffe backstage. Either way, Danny boy is out of luck: Both women have boyfriends. The actor’s rep insists the lovelorn angle was “blown out of all proportion.”

When she’s with boyfriend Tony Romo, Jessica Simpson doesn’t ever seem blue—except when she’s covered in frosting, of course! After working on her album for a week in Nashville, Simpson, 27, let loose by joining her beau to celebrate his 28th birthday at Dallas hot spot Suite on April 19. At one point, “she licked cake from his face as everyone cheered them on,” an insider tells Scoop. “They looked really happy together!”

More rough news for Kanye West. Five months after he lost his mother, Donda, following a plastic surgery operation, he has called off his engagement to Alexis Phifer. “It’s always sad when things like this end,” says Phifer, who didn’t wear her engagement ring to an April 17 New York event featuring her clothing line Ghita. Kanye proposed over dinner on the island of Capri in 2006. Phifer declined to say what broke the couple apart; a friend of Kanye’s contends the two simply hit a rocky patch and were spending less time together.

  • Following news of his broken engagement, West (right, in Miami) sang at L.A.’s Nokia Theatre in front of a famous crowd including Gwen Stefani, Chris Brown, Ryan Phillippe and Jamie Foxx.

Ryan Gosling & Kirsten Dunst

Ryan Gosling may be falling for his leading lady—again. The actor, 27, and Kirsten Dunst, 26, have been getting cozy as they film All Good Things in New York City. “They’ve been spending an ample amount of time off-set,” a friend of Gosling’s tells Scoop. “She’s on her way into his inner circle.” Among Gosling’s past flames: his Murder by Numbers costar Sandra Bullock, his Notebook costar Rachel McAdams and Michelle Williams, with whom he’s set to film Blue Valentine.

Last March, Michael Jackson got a 60-day reprieve to pay off a $24.5 million loan or lose his Neverland ranch. The money is due May 14—and the staff of billionaire Ron Burkle, Jackson’s financial adviser, is discussing subdividing the 2,700-acre property into 10-acre or 100-acre parcels. Six rooms, carousel view, anyone?

Even stars have baby hand-me-downs. Starting April 29, you can bid on these and help Johnson’s Baby raise money for charity (

After David Cook’s brother Adam visited the Idol set, the 36-year-old brain cancer patient told a Terre Haute, Ind., radio station he’s “feeling good.” Want to support Adam? Jordin’s Voice Scare

This spring, American Idol Jordin Sparks will tour with Alicia Keys, but not before spending time resting her voice after suffering an acute vocal cord hemorrhage. Sparks is “learning how to manage and care for her voice,” her label and management said in a statement, adding she is expected to make a “complete recovery.”

Though last spotted with Cameron Diaz, Gerard Butler has turned his attentions to DWTS’ Cheryl Burke. She and Butler, 38, were introduced by her dance partner, Cristian de la Fuente, though she had no idea who the 300 star was. “He could have been a guy who works at McDonald’s Drive-Thru for all I knew,” says Cheryl. Since then, she says, “we’ve had dinner. We’ve kissed. We’ll see.”

KATE HUDSON had a happy—and steamy—birthday on April 19 in Miami with on-again beau OWEN WILSON, 39, who is in town filming Marley & Me with JENNIFER ANISTON. The couple ate lunch with his parents, Laura and Robert Wilson, and “were talking up a storm,” says a restaurant source. “They looked like a happy family.” Later the couple walked hand in hand into the Skybar at the Shore Club. “They settled into one of the poolside beds in their own world,” says an eyewitness. “They just kept kissing.” Other patrons noticed, but “it was like, ‘Awww, look at them.'”

Christy Turlington joined fellow supermodels Helena Christensen and Liya Kebede on April 20 at the Spotted Pig in New York City for an Inspi(RED) brunch where guests created their own Hallmark (RED) Mother’s Day cards—a portion of the sale of the collection’s cards (see below) goes to the Global Fund, which fights AIDS in Africa. “As a model I sell products all the time,” said Turlington. “This was something I could really feel good about.”

Turning 18 in the U.K. is like turning 21 here in the States. So what did Harry Potter’s Emma Watson do to celebrate her big day? Drank pink champagne and danced up a storm. The night started with dinner at London’s Almada club on April 19 for 70 friends and family. Later she requested songs by Rihanna and Britney Spears, boogied and “snogged” (kissed) her new boyfriend, 25-year-old banker Jay Barrymore. “Emma looked ecstatic,” says a guest. And partied on until 4 a.m.

The Harold and Kumar star riffs about impending fatherhood—and those pesky stoner fans

You reprise your role as a pothead in Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (out April 25), part of which is filmed in Amsterdam, a mecca for druggies. Were you a hero there?

We got lost in the shuffle with other tourists. But if they were fans of the movie, their faces went ashen!

Do you smoke marijuana?

I have, but I don’t. And we don’t really get a lot of pot offered to us, either. You’d think people would be putting cannabis leis around our necks. But I think they expect us to give it to them.

You were one of People’s Sexiest Men Alive in 2006. What does your wife [actress Kerri Higuchi] make of that?

I bring up my sexiness often: “How dare you say that to one of the Sexiest Men Alive? You think the Sexiest Man Alive is going to do dishes?”

You’re going to become a father for the first time in May. Are you nervous?

I’m excited—and scared. They give you the baby, and then you have to take it home—and there aren’t any doctors or official people telling you what to do. It’s a helpless organism, and it needs everything from you. That is very scary to me.

Do you think you’ll let your son see the Harold and Kumar films?

Never! At some point, maybe on a camping trip. I’ll be like, “Son, this is my life’s work.”
