Things heated up in Miami last weekend as Owen Wilson, 39, and Kate Hudson, 28, rekindled their relationship. On March 16, the exes—they dated for almost a year from 2006 to 2007—visited the Regal South Beach Cinema 18 theater with a friend to catch an afternoon movie. “They looked like two puppy dogs or playful kids giddy in love,” says a source. Their movie date was one of several outings in the city—where Wilson’s filming Marley & Me—including a day of swimming in a lagoon behind the house where Wilson’s staying and dinner at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink restaurant. (Neither rep had any comment.) But a Hudson source says, “Kate’s problem with Owen is that he wants more than she can give. Her whole thing is how she doesn’t need a man to be happy.” A friend of Wilson’s adds, “He’s on a friendship level with everyone, but there’s something more than that there with Kate. They have a lot of mutual respect and love for each other.”

A sign of the Apocalypto? The troubled pop star gets some surprise support from her former Malibu neighbor

After two hours, a few sodas and an assortment of kabobs, Britney Spears, 26, exited Romanov restaurant in Studio City, Calif., on March 15 “looking happy,” an onlooker tells Scoop. If the star was chipper, it’s because she now has a Hollywood heavyweight in her corner: Mel Gibson. “They’ve been getting together since the end of February,” a source says of the unlikely pair, who along with a few friends dined in the restaurant’s private Library Dining Room. “Mel and [his wife], Robyn, saw a woman in crisis and wanted to help.” So what is the 52-year-old telling her? “[He’s advising her] how to navigate celebrity and how to keep one’s family intact and out of the limelight.” Spears could be taking Mel’s advice to heart. That morning she had a quiet visit with her sons Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1, after working on How I Met Your Mother, which airs March 24.

Dining at Malibu’s Tra Di Noi on March 14 with boyfriend Jack Wagner, Heather Locklear, 46, sipped an Arnold Palmer (a lemonade and iced tea mix), ate pasta and “was in a great mood,” says restaurant owner Tarcisio Mosconi. The giddy public outing came two days after Ventura County officials released an edited tape of a 911 call that sent authorities to her home March 8. “I have a patient, and I have a feeling she’s suicidal,” the unidentified man told a dispatcher. “And I would want someone to go [check on her].” Locklear’s rep has insisted the call had “no merit.” Another source hints Locklear is not immune to personal woes: “Is she perfect? No. Does everyone have their own crosses to bear? Yes. Considering everything she’s been through, she’s remarkable.”

Madonna & Guy

When Madonna arrived at New York City’s Waldorf-Astoria on March 10 to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—a once-in-a-lifetime honor—her husband of seven years, Guy Ritchie, was noticeably absent from the event. And during her acceptance speech, Madonna, 49, thanked her “teachers, friends and family”—but made no specific mention of Ritchie, 39. His absence from the ceremony appears to be a growing trend: Ritchie was also missing from Madonna‘s side at a star-studded Feb. 6 UNICEF event in N.Y.C. and a Feb. 13 Berlin film festival premiere for Filth and Wisdom, which she directed. Then, following a new round of U.K. tabloid reports claiming the couple are splitting, Madonna‘s rep issued a statement: “I am delighted to confirm that Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ritchie remain happily married,” said Liz Rosenberg. “Though they were in different countries recently” working on their respective projects, “the family are joyfully back together at home in London.”

Sienna & Rhys

Not Engaged, But in Love

Recently they canoodled at L.A. hotspots—piano sing-alongs at Chateau Marmont and snuggling at Villa—fueling talk that Sienna Miller and Rhys Ifans are engaged. Not true, says her rep. Who needs a ring? The couple share matching tattoos (small birds on their wrists) and a laid-back approach to life. “They’re happy together no matter what,” says a friend of Miller’s. “They don’t need marriage … they’re love children.”

BFFs Drew Barrymore, 33, and Cameron Diaz, 35, visited the Doll Factory March 15 to check out the L.A. Derby Dolls. Drew was there to do research for Whip It, a film she will direct about a Texas teen who joins a roller derby team. A source tells Scoop, “They were letting loose, drinking beers and [doing] the wave.”

Idol contestant Carly Smithson’s husband, San Diego tattoo artist Todd Smithson, is his wife’s biggest fan. But up until the March 18 episode—when he finally appeared on-camera—he was seldom spotted in the audience during TV shots featuring Idol family members. Why was he such a mystery man? On-set sources believe his lower profile stemmed from concern that his full-body tattoos would turn off conservative members of the Idol voting audience. FOX had no comment. But the Smithson family is already a winner—even without camera time. Todd says “business is a little busier” at his tattoo shop, Nothing Sacred, since Carly’s debut last month.

Paula Abdul, known for zany antics and nonsensical remarks, is looking downright stoic compared to Ryan Seacrest this season. A glimpse of Seacrest’s many faces:

Dancing with the Stars

Dancing alum Mel B, working as an Access Hollywood correspondent, discussing old dancing partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy: “I’m missing Maks. The show misses him!” … Season 5 champ Helio Castroneves cheered on former partner Julianne Hough…. Cohost and new mom Samantha Harris says “carrying around a 15-lb. baby” helped tone her arms…. And Steve Guttenberg has a stage mom: “She tells me what to do and how I need to do it!”

Brody Jenner

The Hills’ resident hottie dishes about his steamy love life and the hit MTV show’s fanatical fans

How are things going with your girlfriend, Cora Skinner?

Things are amazing. I’m very happy. We met out and about at an event. I didn’t get her number but thought she was cute. But every time we’d see each other, we talked more and more, and I finally got her number.

So what’s up with you and Lauren Conrad? You are pretty flirtatious with each other.

We’re still friends. We still flirt and joke around, but that’s just little flirty high school stuff.

Are there fans who tell you they wish you were still with Lauren?

Oh, yeah. And with [Cora], I put her on my MySpace [page], and she gets hate mail! People tell her, “Who are you? You’re not even cute!” It’s absolutely vicious.

Those must be The Hills’ die-hard fans.

People take that show way too seriously, where it’s like, “Get a life!”

How would you describe your personality?

Outgoing, obviously, unless I’m hung over!

Do you think you’re accurately portrayed on reality shows?

For the most part, yeah. Shows like that, you take them for what they are: entertainment. There are a lot of things that people don’t see. I have my own life. I have a job.

You have a job?

I have a jewelry line, Archangel, so I go to downtown L.A. a lot and meet with my partners.

Any hints on what to expect in the new season?

They want to see drama, but I don’t like to be in drama. You never know what to expect on The Hills.
