After a hard-partying start to 2007, Lindsay Lohan checks into luxury rehab
Since checking into the pampering Wonderland Center addiction-treatment facility on Jan. 17, Lindsay Lohan has been keeping a low profile, taking hikes on the center’s lush three acres and attending treatment meetings. Should she wish to step out, the new facility even allows patients to attend professional and social engagements, typically with a “sober companion”—a Wonderland staffer—in tow. So far the kid-glove treatment seems to be agreeing with Lohan, 20, who had planned to be at the Sundance film festival that week. “She’s been sending text messages from rehab saying she’s the happiest she has ever been,” says a pal. “She seems under control right now.”
Which must come as a relief to her family and friends, who had watched with increasing concern as Lohan kicked off the new year by partying hard and fast. The final straw? When the actress—who in December revealed she had been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings—hit Hollywood’s Les Deux on Jan. 5, less than 24 hours after having her appendix removed. “That’s when [those in her inner circle] said, ‘We can’t make excuses for this,'” says a source. “She was like, ‘You’re right. So let’s do something about that.'”
For now Lohan—whose upcoming thriller I Know Who Killed Me is temporarily on hold—is focused solely on taking it easy. “Hollywood’s a really, really busy, scary place,” says her mom, Dina. “She’s getting a grip on her life.”
The hillside Wonderland Center in West Hollywood—costing upwards of $35,000 a month, says the New York Post—has all the amenities of a spa, including yoga instructors and beauty consultants. Says Dr. Howard C. Samuels, the center’s executive director: “We treat the individual’s emotional, spiritual and physical ailments.”
A public apology, a meeting with gay rights groups—is Isaiah Washington doing enough to restore Grey’s Anatomy to its once healthy glow?
The cast is back filming Grey’s Anatomy after a brief hiatus, but even the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes will tell you, “It’s not an easy week to be a producer.” After allegedly using a homophobic slur against costar T.R. Knight in October—and then using the word again to deny it at the Jan. 15 Golden Globes—Grey’s star Isaiah Washington, 43, and ABC have been desperately trying to stanch the bleeding. (Fans called for Washington’s firing; costar Katherine Heigl said he should “not speak in public—period.”) Washington issued an apology on Jan. 18, stating that he could “neither defend nor explain my behavior … I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity.” So far, those actions have included a Jan. 22 meeting with Neil G. Giuliano, president of GLAAD, and Kevin Jennings, founder of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, who said, “[We are] hopeful that Isaiah Washington has come to a deeper understanding of the power of words.”

ACTS OF CONTRITION
After his rant, Mel Gibson told Diane Sawyer he’d held private meetings with members of the Jewish community. Similarly disgraced, Michael Richards apologized to both Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.
DREAMGIRLS GETS SNUBBED! Well … sort of. The film scored eight nods but missed Best Picture. “You can’t dwell on it,” Jamie Foxx tells Scoop. “There’s still champagne to pop!”… THE WINNER IS … WHO? Several supporting nominees are relative unknowns, like Babel’s Rinko Kikuchi and Adriana Barraza, and Little Children’s Jackie Earle Haley (once the star of The Bad News Bears) has been out of the limelight for a generation. You may not know the movies, either: Of the best pic noms, only The Departed cracked $100 million … SUNSHINE-Y DAY! Abigail Breslin, 10, earned a Supporting Actress nod for Little Miss Sunshine. How’d she celebrate? “Dinner at my favorite restaurant, Smith & Wollensky.” She’s looking forward to Oscar-night parties but notes, “I have to be in bed by 10:30.”

Gisele Bündchen & Tom Brady
Score! A source confirms that the model “started dating [the Patriots quarterback] just before Christmas.” Asked about the relationship by a Boston radio show, Brady said he didn’t “have much of a response.” Her rep had no comment.
Josh Hartnett & Sienna Miller
Rebound alert? The newly single stars got cozy at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, hanging out at the 5W Sundance Escape party Jan. 20 and hitting Heineken’s karaoke night the next day. “He’s a friend—a male friend,” insists Miller.
Heath Ledger & Michelle Williams
A picture is worth a thousand … questions? The Australian actor, who had a daughter with Williams in October 2005, was snapped with a band on his left hand Jan. 22. Have they secretly wed? Reps declined comment.
THE LOWE DOWN
With a new gig (and girl!), he opens up about moving on
Just a year after separating from wife Hilary Swank, Chad Lowe has a new role on FOX’s 24 as Deputy Chief of Staff Reed Pollock and a new leading lady: producer Kim Painter, 33. The actor-director, 39, talks to Scoop about his pending divorce, his substance abuse—and avoiding Jack Bauer.
Joining the 24 cast: It’s thrilling. One of the great things about 24 is that no character is safe. The day my character meets Jack Bauer may well be his last.
Splitting from Swank: It takes two people to keep a marriage strong, but if one isn’t willing to do the work then it’s difficult to continue growing together.
Swank’s comments to Vanity Fair that Lowe’s substance abuse prevented them from being “completely solid”: I was disappointed with her decision to go public with my sobriety. But I don’t deny that I had a problem and that it strained our relationship. Was this the reason it ended? No. I’ve been sober for nearly four years and have never felt better. [I’m] forever grateful to Hilary for her support.
The effect of Swank’s skyrocketing career on their marriage: I was always proud of her achievements. It’s true that I was less than inspired by the opportunities coming my way as an actor. But that in no way negated my support or admiration for all she’s accomplished.
Stepping out with Painter: [We’re] taking it very slow and are just enjoying each other’s company.
Q + A
DAUGHTER KNOWS BEST
The Apprentice’s Ivanka Trump has beauty, brains—and a big say in the boardroom
The Donald’s new right-hand man is a woman. Sure, she’s his daughter, but she’s also a Wharton-educated 25-year-old who knows what it takes to work for her dad. He’s been her boss since 2005, and she is currently his vice president of development and acquisitions. Ivanka Trump talks to Scoop about the show, the Rosie row and her dad’s hair:
Are you qualified to hire and fire people?
I’m in that position in my daily life. Plus, I know my father better than anyone else. If you don’t work well with [him], you don’t stay long. It’s as simple as that.
How do you feel about the Rosie feud?
I defend my father when I think he’s right—and in this case, I do. But people are obsessed with this story!
Have you been to the tents?
Yeah, they’re bad! Those people must really want to work at the Trump Organization. If you’re living in a tent for six weeks, it’s not just about getting your face on television.
Do you like working on TV?
I’ve been offered tons of shows, [including] The Bachelorette. I’m flattered, but that in no way furthers my objective of being a great real estate developer.
So, we gotta ask—what’s your take on your dad’s hair?
Maybe I’m just used to it, but I love his hair! I’ve heard all sorts of crazy things, but I can verify with complete conviction that it’s not a hairpiece. It is what it is!
