PARTY’S OVER

After multiple ceremonies (and a wedding bikini) Pam Anderson and Kid Rock call it quits

It was another rocker who said, “It’s better to burn out than to fade away.” Perhaps Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock can take comfort in those words now that they’ve split after 3½ months of marriage. Pam, 39, filed divorce papers Nov. 27—only to find herself beaten to the courthouse by Kid, 35, who, under his given name Robert Ritchie, filed his own petition minutes earlier. “Bob is great in many ways,” Pam posted on her Web site the next day. “We just don’t belong together … we mutually agree.” Still, friends are surprised. “I thought they were the perfect couple,” says Richie Rich, who co-designed Pam’s Heatherette wedding dress. Others saw it coming. “It’s two strong personalities in the public eye,” says designer Melissa Odabash. “It wasn’t going to work.” While each cited “irreconcilable differences,” they listed different separation dates. Pam said they split two days before Thanksgiving; Kid (whose rep didn’t return calls) said it was two days after. Either way, says her rep, “it wasn’t a happy Thanksgiving.”

ROAD TO RECOVERY?

It’s only been four weeks since Nicole Richie, 25, announced she was seeking treatment to address her inability to gain weight, but friends are noticing a difference. “She has [put on] at least 5 lbs.,” says a source close to the actress. “She wants to prove she’s trying to change.” The newly brunette Richie has even “distanced herself from a lot of [old] friends,” adds the source. Among them? Her stylist of three years, Rachel Zoe, 35, with whom Richie split last week. Richie hit the AMAs on Nov. 21 in a short vintage Christian Dior dress with the help of new style consultant Cristina Ehrlich looking “much healthier,” said an onlooker. And she’s ready to shoot the fifth installment of her reality show The Simple Life, which was postponed due to her treatment. Says on-again pal Paris Hilton: “She looks better than she’s ever looked. I love it.” So, it would seem, does Richie. “She’s doing great,” says a friend who spoke to her over Thanksgiving. “She’s taking care of herself and is in a good place.”

NICK AT THE PLATE

“You grow up in Cincinnati loving baseball,” says Nick Lachey. “It’s a kind of religion there.” Now it looks like Lachey is finally getting his turn at bat: The singer is a new co-owner of Washington’s Tacoma Rainiers minor-league baseball team. “Clearly, I’m not going to be playing in my lifetime,” Lachey tells Scoop, “so ownership is the next best thing.” The biggest perk of the job? “Batting practice,” he says. Not to mention one more fringe benefit: “Running around on the field like a big kid!”

The Rose and a Rock

With this ring, I thee … what, exactly? On the final episode of The Bachelor: Rome, prince and cosmetics entrepreneur Lorenzo Borghese, 34, presented middle-school teacher Jenn Wilson, 24, with a ring. Okay, it wasn’t an engagement ring, but it came with mamma’s approval—and you know how Italians feel about mamma. The $80,000 2.71-carat “promise ring” was designed by Borghese’s mother, Amanda, and New York City jewelers Faraone-Mennella. Though the two aren’t altar-bound, Wilson may move from Florida to Manhattan (where her prince has an apartment) after school is out, if all is still rosy. “We haven’t been able to go out in public and do what we normally would,” Borghese says, “so this makes us both excited.”

THERE THEY GO!

Jessica Simpson & John Mayer

On Nov. 22 Jessica Simpson spent down time with John Mayer at LAX (the airport, not the club). “They were waiting for their flights together,” says a source close to Simpson, adding that the pair had separate destinations: She was en route to Dallas for Thanksgiving with family; he was off to New York City.

A PAIR?

Jessica Biel & Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter and Jessica Biel doubled down in Las Vegas last week. The two were seen smooching at Wynn Las Vegas’s Tryst Nightclub Nov. 25, and the following night Biel, 24, and Jeter, 32, partied at the Hard Rock’s Body English, looking “lovey-dovey,” says a clubgoer. Officially lovey-dovey? Jeter’s agent had no comment and Biel’s rep didn’t return calls.

LICENSE TO WED?

Heath Ledger & Michelle Williams

After a Web site posted a sighting of Heath Ledger, 27, and Michelle Williams, 26, at the city clerk’s office in Brooklyn Nov. 27, rumors began to swirl that the two, together since Brokeback Mountain in 2004, might soon make it official. A rep for the couple told Scoop, “We’re not commenting.”

SPLIT

Hilary Duff & Joel Madden

After more than two years together, Hilary Duff, 19, and Joel Madden, 27, have broken up, Madden’s manager confirms to Scoop (a rep for Duff had no comment). A newly single Madden hit Chicago’s Enclave club Nov. 22 looking “pretty upset,” says an onlooker, “but he had fun.”

Q + A

Rainn Date

As hyperintense Dwight Schrute, Rainn Wilson enjoys The Office perks—laughs, bad hair and his very own bobble head

You know him as überdork Dwight on NBC’s sitcom The Office. Soon, you may also know him as the star of Bonzai Shadowhands, a dark comedy about a retired ninja that Rainn (pronounced like the precipitation) Wilson, 40, also wrote. So, yes, things are looking up for the married father of one—even if his TV alter ego is still caught up in the whirlwind of the Scranton-Stamford merger …

How is dear Dwight handling the staff shake-up?

It’s a new opportunity for him to dominate even more people with his signature flair. There will be a lot of jostling among [the three deputies] and I think there are going to be some fireworks—like actual bottle rockets and M-80s.

Who are Dwight’s biggest fans?

Adolescent boys, CEOs and oceanographers, oddly enough.

Does the Dwight hairstyle wash out easily when you leave work?

I’ll try to mess it up, and it just goes back. It’s a force of nature. I’ll be in the drugstore and I’ll realize what’s going on on my head and scream.

Did you keep your Dwight bobble head?

I had it on a shelf for my son [Walter, 2] to play with, but I think we’ve moved it into the bathroom. I don’t know why, but it just felt right.

How is it working with your “boss” Steve Carell?

Steve who?

Steve Carell?

I’m not sure who you’re referring to.

He’s a big Hollywood star now …

I’ll be like “Morning, Steve!” and he’ll be like “17.1 million!” I go, “Excuse me?” and he’ll say, “That’s what Little Miss Sunshine took in this weekend.” The next day it’s all “117,000 copies! That’s what the 40-Year-Old Virgin DVD sold this weekend.”

And how do you respond?

Easy. I say “What did Bewitched sell, Steve?” Then he’ll punch me in the eyeball. That’s just the way our friendship works.
