CBS (Wed., Sept. 13, 9 P.M. ET)

Someone must have called Jack Scalia, last seen falling off a balcony on Dallas, with the good news: “Jack, babe, you have your own series!” And then they must have given him the bad news: “Jack, babe, you’re on opposite Roseanne and In the Heat of the Night!” The kamikaze time slot suggests CBS has no faith in this show. But the hour-long show gives Scalia (maybe TV’s sexiest actor) many winning moments as a San Francisco cop turned private eye. Scalia and Mimi Kuzyk are great together as former (and future?) lovers—but Joe Sirola, as Scalia’s cantankerous father, almost steals the show.
