A takeoff on Lina Wertmuller’s The Seduction of Mimi, this funny if vulgar film stars Richard Pryor. He demonstrates his versatility as an actor by playing three roles—Rufus, “the dirtiest old man in the world,” Leroy Jones, “the sex-starved fruit picker,” and Reverend Thomas, a preacher who treats the women’s choir like his private harem. Marilyn Coleman as Sister Sarah, the reverend’s wife, is hilarious as a horny piano teacher who succumbs to Pryor’s advances. Which Way Is Up? is no downer. (R)
