He raved about Prick Up Your Ears, John Lahr’s bio of homosexual playwright Joe Orton, loathed Jackie Oh! by Kitty KelLey (“Desperately tacky—it should go as a double entry with Mommie Dearest”). Among movies, he was charmed with Buñuel’s That Obscure Object of Desire, disappointed by The Wiz. He liked Madleen Kane’s hit Rough Diamond (“I do all my exercises to disco music”), but not Chuck Mangione’s Children of Sanchez. On TV he was moved by NBC’s late Lifeline, turned off by the CBS adaptation of PEOPLE.
